Indeed that acceleration was set, I dropped the recommended performance-setting in options.
Probably with the new quantum it was again activated.
However, I'm a bit concerned to try because the system may crash again.
I could make a backup first just in case.
The crashing of Firefox on Google maps has been earlier reported on the internet.
But I thought that was solved long ago.

type about:addons in the Address bar to see if any addons or extensions are installed and maybe disable or remove some of them
maybe switch to a different version of Firefox (that is uninstall Firefox 69.0.2 and maybe install a Firefox ESR version; latest ESR version is 68.1 - sometimes I hate having to upgrade Firefox to new versions each month and I like using ESR versions on some of my PCs)
Tried that already by removing all addons and even a fresh up of Firefox which resets the changes made.
If it fails again I may try a new installing of Firefox.
On my laptop Firefox seems to be working well in maps. It's the same version of W7. and of Firefox.
Apart from this I run Waterfox but that is probably en older version of Firefox. (56.2.14)
Waterfox gives no problems with maps. So I could use that instead.

No I didn't and it's not running as I discovered.
With CC I usually erase old logs.
Don't even remember how to start the service.
Found the start service.

Yes, that is a possibility. Thanks.
They occasionally screw up things or disable other valuable features.
(The same is true for a lot off other software updates/upgrades).
Waterfox is in fact an older version of Firefox and does work well with maps.
So you may be right.
