I am getting a 30 second freeze after installing new RAM and sometimes a BSOD with memory code 0x00000f4
This is my system specs and its all new, i replaced everything within the past month so Im pretty sure its not a comopnant fairure but an installation failure. (yes I checked everything is connected to the MB properly)
MB is
Gigabyte MB GA-B85M-D3H - This board supports DDR3 and XMP
http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-b85m-d3h_e.pdf

RAM is
Crosshair Vengance DDR3 2x4GB - 1600Mhz - Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B 8GB 1600Mhz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Memory Module Kit
Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL9 XMP Performance Desktop Memory Kit Blue: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

CPU is
CPU - Intel Core i5 4440 Quad Core CPU Retail (Socket 1150, 3.10GHz, 6MB, 84W, Extended Memory 64 Technology

Power is Crosshair 750w

The newley installed RAM is running at 1333MHz which might be the reason for the freezes. I took a look in the bois with the help of the manual but I couldent figure out what to set or change .

My questions are ......
1) What is XMP profile 1 and should I set up XMP - and if so will it help. I think the bois is using the JEDEC timings? I got the following from CPUz

JEDEC timings table CL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS-tRC @ frequency
JEDEC #1 6.0-6-6-17-22 @ 457 MHz
JEDEC #2 7.0-7-7-20-26 @ 533 MHz
JEDEC #3 9.0-9-9-25-33 @ 685 MHz

And aslo this information ? Im clueless as to what it means or how it should be set?

while this wont be the cause for the BSOD but an answer to why the DIMMS are running slower is because corsair ram need to run at 1.5v to achieve its 1600mhz speed. the standard voltage of 1.2-1.3v mobo kick out will cause it to run a 1333mhz.

If you have the option on your mobo to set the default speed of the DIMMs it will cause posting errors without stepping up the voltage. Ive had this issue in my gaming rig, which would cause the mobo to restart the computer and run the secondary bios after every first attempt at booting of the day.

Thank you badger but im not clear what DIMMS are? or even how to change them. I can see that the RAM is running at 1333Mhz and using 1.5V by the CPUz report. What I need to know in step by step intructions is how to fix this?

Not sure what you mean by running the secondary Bios? How do I fix the issue ?

@ Golden
I have run Mem test I get no issues which I expected as the Ram and otyher componants are very new.

The odd thing is ....the machine seems to run fine one minute and the next I cant do anything due system freezes or the BSOD. For example last night I get BSOD one after another and the machine was unusable. Then this morning it was running fine. I left the machine running and went to work but I get home from work I get a crash again. Its running now while I type this BTW.

Im too scared to try running a game :o

What I really need is step by step instuction on how to set the voltage and RAM to run at 1600Mgz. I read somewhere that Crosshair Vengance needs to be adjusted in the bois but I dont know how?

I also read that this RAM work great with XMP? whatever that means

Have you had a good look around in the Bios yet?

Looking at the manual for your motherboard you need to go to the MIT Tab--Advanced Frequency Settings--Extreme Memory Profile (XMP). You should have 3 options in XMP which are Disabled/Profile1/Profile2.
Profile1 should give you the correct settings for your ram which obviously should be 1600MHz/9-9-9-24 @1.5V

If that is no good then we will need to help you set everything manually.

If you upload the BSOD, I'll see if anything else might be causing the issue.

1. Download this .BAT file to your desktop
2. Right-click the .BAT file and 'Run as Administrator'
3. Locate the .ZIP file created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

In addition to what Paul said, which is an excellent suggestion, and seems to be right out of your rmotherboard manual, you also need to check that the dims (RAM) are installed in the correct slots.

And BTW your memory is compatible with that board. You either have bad RAM, or it may not be configured correctly.

If the above does not help your crash problem I would load "optimized defaults" in bios, save and exit and see what you get. That mem should run at 1366 with out issue.

Hi again,
I have just done the following as your advice.
I checked the RAM and they are in DDR1 and DDR2 , checked they we secure- which they are ! (with two spare slots)
I went to MIT Like Paul suggested and set to Profile 1 - the issue seems to have gotten worse and I cant get windows past my password screen:(

@Golden- I cant get the machine on long enough to download and run the program you suggested

I have taken a pic via my iphone to try to let you guys see what Im getting.
One pic of the Bois current status settings. I can type it al out if you cant see the pic.
One pic of the BSOD - with the code 0x00000f4.

The machine will not stay on now past the windows log in screen :( I refuse to beleive its bad RAM as I said previously the MB, Processor I bought in december, the Ram a few days ago and the power pack in November !! Plus I had issues with the old RAM :(
BTW I am using the onboard graphics - I know im making it more complicated - sorry
Im convinced its something I am doing wrong :(

Thanks for taking a look
Im about to go and cry :(

Could it be that the memories are running in single mode and not dual channel mode? the memories should sit in first slot then you skip 1 slot and then put the second memory in the third slot. And if your memory is running 1333 or 1600 wont really matter as you wont really notice any real time difference so what they are running at right now is not important, and if your DRAM voltage is 1.5v your timings are at 9,9,9,24 and the problem is still there it could perhaps be an ESD damage?

Andreas , Yes I have skipped slots like you describe and I can see from the Bois they are running in duel channel mode .
What does ESD damage mean ? If you mean static damage ? I have been very careful about static and allway wear the wrist band if I ever open the case :P

Hi again,
I have just done the following as your advice.

Hi Beachy,

First, I know you don't want to believe it's the RAM modules are bad seeing how you just got them, but that really might be a possibility. The other being a bad RAM slot.

Anyway seeing how you posted the MIT screen, can you post the Advanced Memory screen?

Also, just to be sure, check your SATA connections to make sure they're secured.

And BTW when you say slots 1&2 you mean alternating, not back to back right? Meaning RAM, space, RAM?

Thanks.

ESD in static damage yes, but if you used a wrist band that should be out of the equation, and like the post above have you checked so every other cable is plugged in fully, did you hear a clicking sound when you installed the ram so they sit correct, they could also be bad ram's from the start like mentioned in above post

The only thing not shown in your screenshot is the ram voltage. Can you confirm it is at 1.5v in the bios?
