Solved System Imaging error

After reading the SF tutorial on Backup, I get this error when trying to create a new Backup/System Image. I have Windows 7 Ultimate. The destination drive is a new 1T external hard drive. I reformatted it to be save. Windows allows me to select the drive as the destination drive. However I get the above error. How can it be out of space or too small for the backup data, I have no idea.

If Windows wants the backup to be put on a DVD, why does it allow me to select an external hard drive?

Do you have less than 1GB of free space on all drives included in the system image?

I made the change from 0% to 100%.
That fixed the error, but still no joy.
I thought the above might help.
I found a post by A Guy...

Start> Right click Computer> Manage
Select Storage> Disk management
Verify that you have a System Reserved partition of 100 MB
If yes, right click on this volume and select Properties.
View used and free space.

A Guy didn't say what to do if it was No.
Is a System Reserve area needed?
If so, how to I create it?

Why do you even muck around with the defunct windows imaging. I use free Macrium and never have any problems.

Looks a bit like you went from a HDD to an SSD and didn't cleanup in the process. The old System reserved on disk 1 is still active. You shouldn't have it active. You can cleanup disk 1 (eventually) and get rid of the little system reserved.

The first thing to do would be to disconnect disk 1 and make sure your your system boots. If it doesn't then you are booting through the system reserved on disk 1. If it boots then plug disk 1 back in and change the active status of system reserved disk 1 to not active.

Edit Add:
Not that it's confusing enough. I am referring to your screenshot disk numbering (ie. 0, 1, 2). On disk 2 your OS partition is active not the 100MB system reserved. This means that if you are booting ok without disk 1 then you are booting through the OS partition and not the system reserved in front of it.
