Yeah, I don't know why it doesn't work for me; it definitely should.

I am actually going to rebuild my USB boot stick on a larger flash drive. It'll include this image for Macrium, Windows rescue disk (32-bit, I've learned ), and the installation media for Windows 7 64-bit. Depending on the flash media size, I may include the Windows 7 32-bit version as well and Office 10.

Comparing to DVDs, the flash drive is lot faster to boot up and the content can be changed easily as well. Since I have a USB 3.0 port, I may even get a 40MB or so external SSD and try booting from there. That would be really fast, but I don't know if the BIOS or USB 3.0 for that matter will support it. Oh well, I have time...

You could always keep the size down by exporting the 64 bit images from install.wim into the 32 bit install.wim.

You will be able install any edition or bit version from that. Repair install for 64 bit won't work from that tho.


Then add the 64 bit winre.wim /boot.wim ( you need to rename it - REC64.wim , BOOT64.wim will do fine - pop it into the "sources" folder. Add an entry to the bcd store - then you will get a menu allowing you to boot your 32 bit image (including macrium), or your 64 bit recovery options wim.

If you are going to do all that - you may as well stick Partition Wizard, or Paragon ( whichever you prefer ) into the image containing macrium.

The WinPE seems to be flexible and relatively easy to modify with DISM, have number of different WIM on the same USB stick, boot selection, etc. Then I throw it in my draw and probably won't find it when I need it .

This would've been a great tool when I used to be an administrator back in the days. In my current position, this is just a hobby that I enjoy doing; maybe when I come back from San Antonio I'll do what you suggested.

Hi mj,

You need to tell winpeshl.ini to start reflectpe.exe, instead of recenv.exe.

scroll down to find system32\winpeshl.ini.

Open it in notepad ( it's read only - so rt click it first>properties>untickRead only>Apply> OK. )

Then change it to read:

[Launchapps]
startnet.cmd
reflectpe.exe

Save it, then unmount the wim

Has anyone been able to restore from a NAS using Macrium Free? Does the LINUX boot CD see the network?

I'm installing a NAS tommorrow and plan on scheduling my Macrium images to it - it would be a fruitless exercise if I couldn't see it in the event of having to perform a restore......

UPDATE : By using the Network function of the Linux boot disk, I can indeed connect and browse to images on my NAS.
