System info shows wrong model, how to remove grub?

I swear I'm never messing with linux again. It's a great operating system when it works, but when it doesn't, it will screw everything up.

OK, so I removed the linux partition from inside windows. But it was still trying to boot into ubuntu, because of grub. Well, I used this recovery cd to try to fix this, but it was a factory recovery cd for an dell laptop (N5050).

Well, the computer is actually a dell inspiron all in one 2305.

I'm currently using windows and it's working correctly, just displaying wrong model (probably wrong drivers as well).

Anyways, linux is still installed and the computer thinks it's a dell laptop.

I forgot to mention one thing, the optical drive doesn't read cd's. But I can boot from a usb.


So, what can I do to fix the situation, and I solemnly swear to never use ubuntu again!

Just an update, I was able to remove ubuntu and combined the partition with windows, and restore the mbr using easyBCD (Highly recommend it)

How can I make sure that windows recognizes my computer as a dell inspiron one 2305?

I would boot the Win7 installation media to do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
after wiping the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command.

Thank you. I am going through the step to do this. I have once question. From this I believe the problem is that it's showing a product key from the laptop instead of the product key from a dell inspiron. Is there a way to remove the current product key and replace it with the correct one?

Also, if I use the diskpart clean command will it also write over all partitions (such as the partition which is 100 mb? I think it has crucial information about recovery on it)

It sounds like another Dell Reinstallation DVD was used to reinstall if it's listing the wrong model. So start with a fresh ISO for the licensed version printed on the COA sticker, burned to disk or stick with the tool provided in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and you should have no problem.

Be sure to read the Special Note for Dell Owners at the end of the tutorial so you can determine if the bootable hardware diagnostics works and decide to keep that small OEM partition for that reason. If so then delete all but the OEM Tools partition during the booted install, using the Drive Options shown in Clean Install Windows 7 Steps 7 + 8. If not you can wipe the drive as given earlier, or delete all partitions.
