System maintenance detects disk volume errors

Hello, I have been having the following problem for over a week now. System maintenance tells me I should "attempt repairs of disk volume errors" because it detects disk volume errors, so I have to schedule a run of CHKDSK on startup. Upon completion, everything seems to be fine, yet system maintenance prompts me about the same problem every time - except when CHKDSK is scheduled. I was seeking solution for the problem and the general consensus on various forum threads was a clean reinstall which I would want to avoid if I can. Is there anything else to do...? Does this even mean that my HDD is failing?

Best thing is to determine the brand of the HDD/Hard Disk Drive, go to that maker's site and download then run their diagnostic.
