I put a system image on a MY Book external hard drive and made a recovery DVD boot disk after installing MSW 7 64 upgrade from Visita 64. When I made the image I had a three Seagate hard drive RAID 0 configuration. Everything operated normally for a month until two of the Seagates crashed at the same time. I replaced all three of the Seagate drives with the WD Caviar drives and configured them in a RAID 0.

I partioned and formated the RAID by reloading MSw 7 64 from the orignial installation disk. Then tried to restore the system from the system image I have on the external hard drive and the boot DVD and recieved "No Disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found." Under "detials" it gave the 0X80042412 error massage. After trying several times and getting the 0X80042412 error message each time I went to the command promt and used the LIST DISK command under DISKPART to show the disks. It listed the RAID as DISK 0 with 596 GB of space, 0 free, nothing under DYN and GPT. It was at this point I decided I need some help.

Find the Windows Image Backup file on that HD and put it on an external or your new primary HD to be detected by the imaging utility.

This is just one of the problems that result from RAID arrays in Win7. Put it back together enough to get that backup file off, then leave the dated RAID behind.

The orginal back up image was made with W7 system image backup to the external hard drive. Two disk from the orginal RAID that the image was made from crashed. I replace the old RAID with two new disks and configured the new RAID and try to restore the system image to the new RAID that is when I recieved the "No Disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found." 0X80042412 error message.
