I want to run a System Repair.
Will this affect only my Windows folder or will this delete my personal stuff?

What "system repair" are you referring to? If you are talking about System Restore, it will not delete any user data or e-mails.

Actually - I did System Repair from installation DVD it did this:

- it deleted profiles of existing users, and data in Documents, Settings, Desktop,... all lost

- programs were left ok, unless they did have some data connected to specific user profile

!! be carefull !! - you'll lose personal certificates in IE (be it for bank, accessing some sites,...) - since they are connected to user profile.

Oh! yeah: the graphic drivers were also gone.... :) - sound, mb, ok. (??)

I made a export of certificates and put it on a flash drive, but it's lost (so...) - argh!!!

Although this thread is almost 1 1/2 years old, it sounds like your "System Repair" was a Repair Install. If it was, some of the things that will be reset to default or affected include Sounds, Services, Visual Effects, Drivers, Custom Themes, Gadgets, and Windows Updates.

Thanks for reply - I'll check it out...

I honestly am not sure - maybe I did Repair Install, but after all trouble (you know: 1 day of rebooting,.... :( ) - I went this route and it explicitly said somewhere: it will repair corruped win files (they were listed, if I remember correctly) and will not touch user settings... so: I went for it

My Computer

OS
Windows 7 x64
Repair Install:
"You cannot do a repair install at boot or in Safe Mode"

Nope... I did it at boot - because I could not even get Safe mode start at boot: only: Normal (hanged :( ) and Repair... (said: recomended) - but it failed to resolve anything.

So I boot from original DVD - "repair someting" (don't remember) - it looked for files that needed repair: it listed them, did some settings - and everything looked fine; just user profiles were lost (and video drivers).
