Solved System Reserved?

1. Despite following this tutorial ( http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html ) am getting the partition.

2. On reinstall, I get 2 partitions SR and Windows, click on drive options, delete SR and Windows, get all space as unallocated.

3. But the format option is no longer highlighted, and when asked to install windows on all the unallocated still get a SR partition at the end....

4. Care to edit, what am I doing incorrect.

Windows boots from the start partition why are you trying to remove it?

Windows installation always create the MS reserved 120M raw partition. If you google you'll find a way install Win 7 without the MS partition.

Recommend one leaves most of Windows Prime, including the System Reserved partition, alone.

Best procedure is to completely wipe the partition you intend to use for windows, and if concerned about data drives you can physically disconnect these, ( I have never had any issues with leaving drives active and connected but it is an additional safety option).

When installing when prompted use the drive option and completely remove all partitions on the system drive, and let windows create the partitions it requires, The system reserved partition used to be around 100MB, (with Windows Vista/Seven), but now with the Anniversary update release 1607 the last clean install I did (two days ago), crated a 500MB system reserved partition as extra components for system recovery have been added.

I used to use a system reserved partition long before windows copied me mainly as I used to run a number of multiboot OS's on most systems (now use VMs) and if an OS failed I could normally still boot into one of the others as all the start-ups were located on the system reserved and not on a random OS

Regarding to the 1st partition System Reserve.


If there is this 1st partition SR, it is best to leave it.

Some computer cannot deleted & un-hidden this 1st partition SR.

Here is the procedure if you DON'T want to have a System Reserved partition in Windows 7:

Disconnect all hard drives other than the drive that will receive Windows.

Disconnect any external devices. All you need are monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Boot from the Windows 7 installation disc.

Hit Shift F10 at the first screen where you are asked to choose a language.

A command prompt will appear. Type diskpart at that prompt.

Type in the following commands one by one, followed by the Enter key to create a partition (text in parentheses are comments only):

list disk (to show the ID number of the hard disk to partition, normally Disk 0)

select disk 0 (change 0 to another number if applicable)

clean (this wipes the drive of anything on it; not needed on a brand new drive)

create partition primary (this will create one primary partition covering the entire drive)

select partition 1 (this selects the partition you just made)

active (this marks that partition active)

format fs=ntfs quick (this formats that partition)

exit (this quits the diskpart program)

exit (this closes the command prompt window)

Continue Windows 7 installation as usual. Remember to highlight and select the partition just created when you come to the partition screen asking you "where do you want to install Windows?”.

Thanks to all of you smart members, maybe I was trying to become a geek (at this age ), reading Shawn tutorial.

Tried it and failed, than created this thread.

After reading ALL your expert replies, have decided, to keep System Reserved SR.

And focus on trying to Update a clean install of W7 32 bit.

you can not format unallocated space, you have to create your install partition 1st.

Just do it how I told you and you`ll have no System Reserved partition
