System restore points are disappearing?

Hi guys so i wanted to do a system restore on my machine due to somthing i installed giving me issues. I wanted to restore to a point about a week ago but when i clicked show more restore points all it came up with was a critical update installed today. I have no idea why my system restore points are disappearing but does anyone have any ideas on how i could restore those points?

What percentage of space do you have dedicateed to system restore, maybe restore points are being deleted because you`re out of space.

I don1t use SR, that`s why mine is at 0%

well apparently mine went down to 0% but it also says 2.73gb in brackets with a current usage of 583 mb. If i put it to 1% it goes up to 6.8GB And right now there are 2 points, one to undo a restoration I did and restore to critical update time so Im guessing that my restore points are about 250mb each. So because im running out of space on my HDD I lost most of them I guess.. I really need to clean this up or get another hard drive. Dunno how I even used 670GB on this. How much by default should I really dedicate to system restore?

I use another drive and store disk images, I don`t use system restore.

Right well to anyone who does use system restore how much % or GB should I dedicate towards system restore?

Default is 10%, I use 5GB of space, 3 (at most 4) restore points. I also use backup imaging and don't necessarily need them.

Check your eventviewer for Volsnap ID 25 entries. It might be an extisting bug. See more here:

I use 5% on my systems. A lot depends on how much space is used on your system and how much free space you have left.
If you "C" partition is to small or not enough free space you will not get all your restore points no matter what % you use.

System Restore will switch itself off any time free space on the drive gets to below 400MB (or at least that was the limit in XP - not sure about Win7!)
A number of other maintenance tools will also switch off well before that point - notably Defrag

Some where on this forum a few weeks back members were having this same problem and found out is was a 3rd party defrag program. It wasn't removing the restore points it was just putting them some where Windows 7 couldn't find them.

Also remember that Restore Points must be kept on the (C) partition so Windows 7 can find them.
