Hi Boozad, I don't think I can load disk management since I cannot load Windows.

Is there an equivalent version of disk management that I can show you from the recovery command prompt? I am still puzzled by the X:\ drive thing.

Ah - you're still using the Recovery environment? I'd forgotten!
That explains why you're in the D drive
WinRE re-enumerates the drivers starting at the drive attached to SATA1 - then SATA2, which isn't quite the same way that Windows enumerates them.

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Yes. I am in the recovery console. I am using a USB drive to transfer files via my laptop.

I cannot find the file you mentioned and I typed it exactly. When I typed the second command, I am reading "Volume in drive D has no label. Volume Serial Number: C2EE-0919 File Not Found". If this is related to Internet explorer, I remember whenever I tried to use windows update to install IE10 the update failed.

What actually happens if you attempt to boot to normal WIndows?
What errors do you get when you run a Startup repair?

Startup Repair says "Startup Repair could not detect a problem"

If I attempt to boot to normal Windows, right after the "Starting Windows" screen (just before the Windows login screen), the BSOD pops up and automatically reboots.

That does sound like drivers to me - do you get the same behaviour if you not to Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Command Prompt?

Yes, all safe modes load up until "classpnp.sys" then goes to the same BSOD and reboots.

Do you know what the STOP code is when you get the BSOD at bootup? I've scanned through the thread but can't seem to find it.

Yes, it is 0x0000006b. There are some other numbers there too but they are all zeroes.

Can you boot using your Windows installation media (DVD or USB), locate the bootcat.cache file (%SystemRoot%\system32\codeintegrity), delete it then try rebooting.

Yes, I deleted the file and I get the same BSOD.

Can you run the repair option from the bootable media? Theoretically this should replace/restart whichever driver has been deleted/disabled.

Ok, I had to first make a bootable usb flash drive from my Windows 7 ISO image (I don't have any blank discs). I booted successfully from this drive and then I selected my Windows installation to repair and it launched Startup Repair. It said "Attempting Repairs..." for about 1 minute. (This is longer than when I tried Startup Repair from the recovery environment before).

It then told me Restart your computer to complete the repairs. I clicked Finish, then the computer rebooted and right after the Windows screen, I got the same BSOD again.

Additional info:

I opened system restore again and now my D: is listed as (D (System) ready to restore. All other drives including C: say the drive is not in the selected restore point. That is strange I always boot from the c: drive where I installed Win7.

Edit: I disconnected all external drives and for some reason it reassigned drive letters. I am currently running SFC /scannow /offbootdir=d:/ /offwindir=d:/windows. The first run it said could not perform the requested operation. The 2nd and 3rd times it said found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

Is D: still listed as the System Disk do you know? I don't know how this could have happened but I'm wondering if the Master Boot Record has somehow shifted from your SSD to your D: drive.

Yes, D: is still the system disk. I thought it was because the recovery environment re-enumerated the drives as you or Noel mentioned.

I am getting a new hard drive. I think I will just do a clean install on my new hard drive (and use the old system drive for storage) to bypass this issue if we cannot find a solution soon. That would work, correct? What should I do to make sure I clean up my old Windows installation, etc.? Thank you.
