Well I had the brilliant idea to delete the manufacturer's recovery partition on my ASUS Win 7 64-bit laptop, and reclaim that space for my C drive, and now my system is unbootable. I get the error message "autochk program not found" then stop: c000021a Fatal System Error. I have run System Recovery several times to no avail. I tried to do a repair using the Win 7 DVD, but that didn't work either.

I am entertaining suggestions for a fix for this. Any ideas anyone?

This problem is easy to fix! what exactly did you do? You did delete the recovery partition... did you try to boot after that action and did it boot fine?

Did you add space to the left or right side of WIN7 partition?

From Recovery environment->command prompt:
dir c:\
dir d:\
dir e:\

Now you know the drive letter of win7. In this sample D
Code:
dir d:\windows\system32\autochk.exe [B](is it still there)?[/B]
chkdsk/f d:

It says the drive letter of Windows 7 is D, when it should be C. I re-sized the C partition with the space I recovered from the recovery partition and moved everything over.

What do you mean by saying "and moved everything over"?

disconnect all external disks and usb sticks. Then in recovery environment->command prompt

diskpart
list disk (I assume you only see disk 0?)
sel disk 0
list part
exit

How many partitions? Please give the type and size

diskpart
list vol
exit

What is volume C? and what is its size? What volume is system (under info)?

browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Mywin7\MountedDevices and post camshot as well. This one is part of your win7 regsitry that doesn't know what partition is called C. We have to fix that. Do you see \DosDevices\C: in second camshot? If so has it the same value as \DosDevices\D: in first screenshot?

Sorry have to go. I'll respond on tuesday

What do you mean by saying "and moved everything over"?

I used EASEUS Partition Master 5 to delete the recovery partition, which was in front of the C: partition, then "move data" over into the recovered space...

So you simply resized the partition, adding the unallocated space to the left of it.

Well I found a 3-month old backup of my C: partition on my WD Passport drive that I forgot that I had made. I ran the restore for this and my system booted up! All the programs and tweaks are 3 months old, but it's better than having to re-install the Win 7 OS and all my programs/tweaks from scratch.

THANKS for all your assistance!!! :D

We can help you remove the Recovery partition if you still want to do it.

It may have the System Active boot files which must first be moved to C, or else it lost ability to boot because of being Resized which is fixed by assuring the Active flag is on Win7 partition then running up to 3 separate Startup Repairs until it boots.

Either way if you'll post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Mgmt drive map with listings showing all columns, we can give you the steps to do what you want .
