System Upgrade after about 3 years

Great! You will make someones day with that. Also, I wouldn't worry about the power going out and having an SSD in your system. It is probably less risky than the power going out with a mechanical hard drive spooled up and running. Let us know when it arrives, and if you run into any problems, we'll be happy to help.

Right guys:

The beast is up and running.

The whole system build took about 6 hours, since we had to clean the whole cabinet thoroughly because of dust accumulation.

Lots of pics to share, as soon as I get the time to get them off the camera and processed.

Once again, Windows 7 has stunned me with its astonishing resilience. Booted to desktop absolutely fine.

All it needed was a little fine tuning of the drivers for the new devices (on the motherboard), and we are now back in the game.

The only downer is that the new Seagate 2TB HDD was DOA. Will now have to go through the RMA grind.

Flipkart shipped the Samsung SSD on a Sunday (!!!! - what is this country coming to I wonder, doing things so fast), so I should get it on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Like an idiot, I also went and bought a 2.5" to 3.5" drive bay adapter for the SSD. I only found out when we disassembled the HAF-X that it already has a 2.5" adapter in one of the 5 HHD bays.

It did give me a few moments of stark terror though.

All through the install (which was done at a friend's place), we repeatedly test booted as we did each thing. All was fine.

Then I cart the whole thing over to my home, set up, connect everything, switch on - and NO BOOT. No power, no lights, no spinning fans, nothing. And the time is 1 AM.

I had open it up again, disconnect every single major power connector from the board, reconnect, and then remove and reseat the RAM, and finally got the system to boot.

All seems to be fine now.

Sometimes moving the Tower will jar the ram loose.

Yup.
Its happened to me a number of times, but its always a terrifying time as you work through the possibilities.

And for some reason, such things always seem to happen in the middle of the night.
