So I had an SSD and I had backed up (created an image) using Acronis True Image Premium 2014.
As a coincidence, the HDD died a couple of days later.
I bought a new HDD and restored the image (with great difficulty) on another system, then took the HDD and put it into the laptop in question.

everything works except...the system is SLOW! I mean, I have never seen it this slow - ever. I see lots of errors in the eventlog such as the Cryptographic service failed/crashing (The Cryptographic services service failed to initialize the Catalog Database. The ESENT Error was: -583). Same thing with the Windows Search Service. I see the HDD activity sky high. I also get prompted for opening known programs like the mmc snap in or event viewer in Windows.

I am really not sure what to do as I have lost a lot of time (and money). I really need the system back to good perf condition but just not sure where to look or what to do. Usually I'm pretty good but this is a baffle to me.

I am using Windows 7 Ult SP1 + all updates.

thank you.

The image that you had backed up, was it from the SSD or the HDD?

The best (and quickest probably) thing to do would be to freshly install Win7 to be honest.

normally I would do a fresh install but because of so much data and applications and configuration... I cloned it to save that time and effort.
the image I backed up was from an SSD and restored on a normal spindle HDD (1TB).
