System will rarely post. "Unknown" Hardware problem

Hello once again Sevenforums.

For the last few days, i have had a rather frustrating problem with my system. It doesnt want to POST.
Let me explain this; Turning the computer on is a mystery. The initial startup seems pretty standard, except that there is no beep, Fans run at 100%speed for a few seconds, and nothing appears on the screen. If i then turn it off via the ON/OFF button, and start the system anew, it will first turn on for a second, then go off again. Waiting 4-5 seconds, the System "magically" starts itself up, with the same symptoms as mentined before.

This all has happened after a recent LAN party, where a power shortage apparently may have been the sinner. Just mentioning, i am writing this using that system, as it can still BOOT using a few primitive measures. Removing the source of power to the computer ( by first removing the power cable, and then turning off the outlet before re-inserting it ) and consecutively turning it on, it will 50% of the time POST and start up as usual.

One thing to note also, is that recently, every time i have / have been opted to save a file on my local hard drive, the system has made a loud BEEPing noise similar to the one coming at the strtup.

One of your ram sticks may be zapped/faulty.
Pull one stick - test, then the other/s.

If not > motherboard - try resetting Cmos with board pins first. (remove ALL leads from your pc first inc electric lead)

Cheaper to buy an anti-surge multi plug socket to take with you next time - eh?

i shouldn't suppose the PSU could be the problem here or what? After all, the System sometimes makes a successful POST, but then freezes after just a few minutes.

Of course, this may well be the MB, but i have had a similar problem with this system before; actually right after alightning strike, and it was "fixed" after the MB was replaced under warrenty. it is likely, that this particular model of MB, is bad, at least for use in my "StocK" system for any reason. The only Piece of hardware that i have "altered" is adding a Wireless network card to one of the back slots in the MB. The addition should be legit, as both the MB, and the casing have built in support for this.

And for the record, a power shortage precaution is always a good idea, but you cant anticipate the actions of every idiot in this world - hehe

If this drive doesn't contain your OS, then what happens if you disconnect it? Disconnect both power and data cables.

A, i have removed and rerun the system using the same and other mem. blocks several times now, no apparent effect.

B, i am not really aware, whichdrive contains my OS, and which is for storage, but i will let you know next time i have a succesful BOOT.

C, theres been a burnt smell associated with running the system lately. Even for just about 10 seconds, i immediately noticed the scent, as if some electronics or plastic had melted.
