Hi,

My Laptop is a x64 bit and tried to load windows 7 x64 but it won't allow it at all, so I could only load windows 7 x32 bits.

In my sytem it shows only x32 bits and not x64 bits. Anyone knows a way to correct this?

I am new here and with moderate PC knowledge.

Hi Ninos, welcome to the Forum.

Are you sure the Windows 7 installation media you have is x64. It seems like it might be x32.

Can you give a more complete model number? For example, G62-400. Also, there may be a different model number on a sticker on the bottom of the computer.

Some questions:
  • How do you know that your laptop is 64-bit?
  • What did your laptop come with? Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 7 32-bit?
It won't hurt to run 32-bit Windows 7 rather than 64-bit Windows 7. But 64-bit Windows 7 is more capable than 32-bit, so I would go with 64-bit if I could. In order to run 64-bit Windows 7, you have to have a 64-bit computer; however, you could run 32-bit Windows 7 on either a 32-bit or a 64-bit computer.

Negatives with 32-bit Windows: 32-bit can't use as much memory as 64-bit. With 4 GB of RAM installed, you can't use all of that with 32-bit Windows; but you could use all of it with 64-bit Windows.

Positives with 32-bit Windows: If you have a lot of old software and hardware, it should all work with 32-bit Windows; but some of it might not work with 64-bit Windows.

Hello,

My Laptop came with Windows 7 x64 bits and was upgraded to Windows 10 but since my LT was not good enough for Windows 10 I decided to downgrade it to 7, as before but could only have the x32 bits and I can not install the x64 bits, it does not accept it.

HP G62-a10EO Notebook PC
Processor: Intel Pentium CPU P6000 @ 1.87 GHz 1.87 GHz
Installed memory RAM 4.00 GB (2.43 GB usable)

I must have done something wrong that I have no idea whatsoever. I have tried with Virtual Box, shows only x32 bits, tried with "Hyper V" that does not exist in my LT and in BIOS have tried the "Visualization ON" etc but no go.
Kindly let me know if there is something else you need to know-
Best wishes

The laptop came with Win 7 HP x64 so there's no reason it shouldn't install. The last ISO from Microsoft is listed as:

Hello and thank you for all your concern to help!!

torchwood! Unfortunately "no factory reset option available" at all !!

After the upgrade of Windows 10 there is no such option to return to windows 7, unfortunately! It is a frustrating situation!!

Bat 1! Thank you as well! Unfortunately, I have no idea of what you are writing to me, I wish I did, but I am trying to load Windows from an ISO x64 bits and I also have a x32 bits. The x32 Bits is OK but the x64 is not possible. It cuts me off at once as a non recognizable and it is as follows:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you´re running. Check your computers system information to see whether you need an x86(32-bit) or x64 (64bit) version, and then contact your software publisher."
The windows came as an OEM contacted the HP company but there is no support any more etc.
All I wish is to be able and with Usb or DVD install Windows 64 bit which is impossible and been wondering why, while it is OK to install x32 bit.

Many thanks again for your very kind effort.
Best wishes

Apparently there is some Windows stuff on your hard drive which is interfering with the 64-bit install. Therefore, if you could get rid of that, you might be able to do the 64-bit install.

If your 32-bit disk is a "standard install" version of Windows rather than a "factory refresh" version of Windows, then you will have some options when you first boot the computer with the 32-bit disk in the drive. Choose to do a custom install. Then, you will soon see a screen which will let you delete all partitions and then create one new partition. Delete all of the partitions except for the "factory refresh" partition (so that in the future you will be able to do a factory refresh on the computer), and then create one big partition from all of the unallocated space. Then do a format on the new partition that you created. At this point, you will have gotten rid of anything that might be interfering with the 64-bit install. So you can stop the process at this point by removing the 32-bit disk and then shutting down the computer. Be sure to leave the drive open, so that you can insert the 64-bit disk.

Now insert the 64-bit disk and try to install Windows.

It appears that your CPU does not support Virtualization Technology (VT-x). VirtualBox requires this to support a 64 bit client, regardless of what the host OS may be. The BIOS cannot turn on a feature the CPU does not support.

https://ark.intel.com/products/49058/Intel-Pentium-Processor-P6000-3M-Cache-1_86-GHz

The OP said that the computer came with 64-bit Windows. How could it have come with 64-bit Windows if it wasn't capable of running it?

I wonder if he bought it second-hand?

My comment wasn't regarding the capability of running a 64 bit OS. There is no doubt of that. It was only the ability to run a 64 bit OS on VirtualBox. VT-x is needed for that but not for running a 64 bit OS natively.

I find this interesting, from post#7

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you´re running. Check your computers system information to see whether you need an x86(32-bit) or x64 (64bit) version, and then contact your software publisher

Sounds more like a REPAIR install issue, more than a Clean install problem.
Clean Install Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums
note DO not enter a product key, it should auto activate,
If it does not its possible the Bios has been changed.

Windows 7

Hello,

I wish to thank each and every one of you for your kind help!! I finally managed to solve the problem and I now am running windows 7 x64 bit.

The issue was solved with the following command:

a) Open Command prompt as described in Method 1.
b) Type CD C:\windows\system32\oobe and hit ENTER.
c) Type msoobe and hit ENTER.
d) Make a generic account and password and hit Finish (if it requests a product key and you have one, enter it now. if it is an OEM/No key required, just click Finish).
e) Set time and date.
f) Restart the computer and check for the issue.

Best wishes to you all
Ninos
