Title refers to mICROSOFT.

I have tried ad nasium to "Take ownership" so I can delete some files, without any success. What is the deal with this?? 52 desktop images I dont want wont go away. Its like bILL gATES paid someone to rub it in my (and everybody elses) face. Is there a (relatively) easy way to do this??

I am a diehard XP fan, my only problem with XP is how difficult they have it to continue using it. I have 7 on this one computer, its like they have switched the gas pedal with the brake pedal, this is supposed to be good/better?

I have been frustrated with 7 for a few years, its just not getting better, , , ,

Help, , ,

Skip the take ownership steps and use Unlocker to delete the files.

Just pay attention to the extra junk that Unlocker wants to install.

Yes. Not having full, unrestricted access to every component of the OS is a much better design, both for stability/reliability and for security. But if you're unwilling to adjust, you're going to drive yourself crazy. Files you don't own on your desktop are an indication that "you're doing it wrong".

Please don't take that personally, I struggled at first too... I think most people did. I'm pretty sure the most common question in the early days of Vista and 7 was "how do I disable this account control / security stuff and just run as Administrator like in XP?"

I tried/used this:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html

Take ownership shortcut. seems to work. The computer didnt burst into flames when I deleted the 52 images. <- actually, c:\win\web\wallpaper\etc.

One issue solved?

How does one make a 'Upgrade to w10' icon in the notification area go away? I wouldnt wish 10 on but my worst enemies.

What is 'Defender'? Now, every time I turn comp on I get a box saying it isnt working, 'click to turn on' 'procedure to turn it off etc.' lasts till turning comp back on, same box/message. I know I know, its better, , , ,

How 'bout this for an issue?

I have a desktop shortcut (with shortcut keystroke = ctrl+alt+'keypad'-) for shutting down the computer.

At every power on, this shortcut gets relocated to exactly under the 'computer' icon on the desktop. The "computer" icon is on top, clicking shuts it down.

Another: The box is always checked for "small" arrow on shortcuts, (<-forget where that is, but its checked) but they always have those huge arrows, despite all efforts, , ,

Cut that shutdown shortcut from the Desktop folder and paste it in to one of the Start Menu folders:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
or
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

or you can place it in a new sub-folder in either of those Start Menu folders

or you can place it in any existing sub-folder in either of those Start Menu folders.

The Shortcut Key combo should still work from there.
