Depends upon your version of Windows. If you have business, enterprise or ultimate you have remote desktop and that can do what you want. That is one of the reasons that I don't license Home Premium...because it lacks that feature.

If you don't have those, you can look into something like TightVNC.

Well then you have what you need. Right click on My Computer on your machine, hit the remote tab and enable remote desktop.

From the XP machine, under Accessories and Communications you should find Remote Desktop connection. Run that, put in your computer name or IP address and you should be able to connect. If not, ensure that the Windows firewall is allowing access.

YES, Teamviewer is the best... No firewall and connection problem....
Also easy to use.... just install on the both PCs, run, add generated ID and password from PC where you want to connect and that's it....
easy, simple and useful....

Teamviewer is deffinately worth trying buddy. It's free, secure, and very easy to use. Across platforms. They are also already claiming to be Windows 7 compatible. So that is a bonus. It also doesn't need to be installed. And did I mention that it is free for personal use!

When you are connecting to the remote machine, is it across the internet or within your home? I don't see any reason why remote desktop would not work out for what you are trying to accomplish. It's built into Windows free and is easy to use. If you have specific questions, let me know and I can provide more details for you.
