I maintain a computer with several user accounts all PW protected except one. The unprotected one is for the use of all. Somehow or somebody the task bar auto hide got checked and subsequent users did not know what to do.I final;ly figured it out and returned it to to NOT auto hide.

Question is there any way to prevent others from making these kinds of changes short of PW protecting the account?

Don't know if this is too much to what you want, but there is a group policy setting that prevents users from making changes to the start menu and task bar.

To enable this;

Start, run, gpedit.msc
Go to user configuration/administrative templates/start menu and task bar.
Then enable the "Prevent changes to start menu and Task bar".

Exit the policy editor, log out and back in.

In the same branch there is also another setting called "Lock all taskbar settings".

Either of these might suit your needs.

You need Windows 7 Home premium or better to access the policy editor.

yep theres a way where when you right-click on the taskbar , no option appear , to do so :

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/5457-taskbar-context-menus-enable-disable.html

1.open gpedit.msc from run .
2.go to User Configuration / Administrative Templates / Start menu and taskbar
3. search for the option "Remove access to the contex menus for the taskbar

aside from this there are many other option to do with the taskbar wheich will help you protect your computer and if you want to remove the contex menu from the desktop then go to the desktop tab .
