Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong area.

I recently discovered (and have since deleted) two temporary folders containing a couple of pieces of my own artwork from the recycle bin. I found this odd, especially as most of the images in these temporary folders were from a folder I last edited in February 2013.

Since I deleted the folders I can't remember their names, but see they were both created at 20.40 today. I don't remember doing anything in particular at this time (except possibly clearing Chrome's cache, or sending an email via LiveMail - it had a couple of images as attachments, but neither of these images appeared in the temporary folders). What made this happen?

I've run scans with both McAfee and Malwarebytes and have found nothing -
any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.

It seems this is normal behaviour and has been happening since Windows Live Mail (WLM) was created.

These two replies from this thread from two years ago sum up the situation: [Windows Live Mail] Tempory files in Recycle Bin every time I - Microsoft Community

Fifth post by iFiredog:
WLMail's handling of the temporary files it creates to be able to do its job is beyond the wit of man. Every time you read a message, two files are created in Temporary Internet Files, and they stay there until you delete them. At least the temporary files created when you view an attached image file are deleted automatically, even if they do end up in the recycle bin alongside other deleted files. They do no harm there, but if you don't like having them there, delete them. That's usually easier than deleting the thousands upon thousands of Temporary Internet Files.

Gianni1962, I totally agree with you. All software apps have the power to run in the background and create and delete files as they are needed on the hard drive as system and hidden files. The fact that the user Recycle Bin should ever have to be used for this is total bogus. Using it this way is very confusing. It is true that Windows needs to have temporary files delete to run efficiently, but Windows does this automatically in the background. It's now 2014 and this annoyance still has no resolution. I'm convinced that there's some kind of phony bologna going on here, but I don't know what. I wish Microsoft would just come out with it.

You might be able to slow this down with some settings in WLMPhotoGallery:

I also seen hints that if these temp files from WLM aren't cleaned out and allowed to build, they could slow down WLM's performance.

Hi Anak, thanks for the reply.

Thanks for telling me this - I didn't realize temp folders were created by LiveMail after viewing an attached file, which is what I'd done.

You're welcome,

I'd have to agree with Gianni1962, I don't understand why WLM uses the recycle bin, you'd think in this day and age microsoft could find a better way to handle the opening and manipulation of attachments.
