I've done a search throughout the forums, but I don't believe I found the exact same problem, since other threads seem to freeze a computer to the point of crashing, whereas this doesn't.
Now, onto the problem.
Starting in the past week or so, my laptop (Windows 7, Sony Vaio VGN-NW350F) will freeze sporadically when I watch a YouTube video, or sometimes just play music in iTunes, or other online video players.
Whenever it happens, the audio will suddenly become...I don't know how to describe it, distorted and electronic sounding, like taking that one moment of sound that was playing when it froze, and then stretch the noise out. I can't find the right words, but it's jarring.
This will last usually a good 30-45 seconds, after which everything will return to normal. Sometimes Flash will crash, sometimes it won't. Once in awhile, the screen will shut off, and then reappear, with a new notification stating that the display failed, but was recovered. When this happens, the hard drive light will stop flashing, even though I can hear the hard drive. Last year I had an issue with a broken motherboard that would leave the display frozen, but shut down the hard drive light as well as the hard drive itself, so the fact that I can still hear it, plus that it eventually unfreezes, I'm sure this isn't a hard drive issue.
It'll happen randomly. Sometimes a video will play just fine, or it will freeze temporarily five seconds into it. And also to note, this happens with all browsers, not just Firefox (my default)
If this is a driver issue, would anyone be willing to try and give me steps to resolve this?
As for more specs, I pull up the advanced settings for display settings, and it tells me that I have a Mobile Intel(R) GMA 4500MHD card, but that my driver software is up to date.
If more specs are needed, please let me know.
