Text to Speech:"Sorry but your license is not valid for this computer"

Hi guys. Tried searching for this, but couldn't find anything about it.

So, I bought a notebook computer that came with Windows 7. It comes from a reputable store, so I have no reason to believe that there would be anything wrong or invalid about either the computer or Windows. Everything seems to run just fine, except for when I try to turn on the Text to Speech function. The computer voice says "Warning. Your license is not valid for this computer".

Again, everything else seems to be fine and I haven't seen any indication that my license is invalid. I'm probably missing something though. Any advice you could give on what's casusing this would be realkly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome
The most important thing is that your OS is validated.
Go to computer icon on desktop
right click
properties
On the bottom, right, do you see the genuine MS logo? If so you have a genuine license and do not have to worry about that.

Hey,

Yes, I do have the genuine Microsoft logo on the bottom right. No problem there.

Hello Jfournier,

You might go to the Microsoft website below and click on the Validate Windows button to verify and validate your Windows 7 to see if that may be able to help afterwards.

Genuine Microsoft Software

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Do as Brink said and here is the probable explanation:

As genuine advantage checking is a random and recurrent process in background, sometimes it gets interrupted by the user/ system itself unintentionally (System hangs, process terminated etc). Further, users are using third party themes with custom icons, explorer.exe, explorerframe.dll from other users by patching the system.

The Windows registry and these files are very finely tuned. If there is certain change, it is possible to make Windows think, the copy is not legal.

Just running the WGA tool (as Brink said) should resolve the issue.

I'm going to assume Starter doesn't support it. Thus the issue of license.

Hey again.

Brink and Abhishek: I ran the Validate Windows progrtam and it said everything was fine. Not sure what to check next.

Logicearth: I suppose that's plausible, but it doesn't mention that anywhere in the user guides or anything. Would be rather cruel of them.

So, someone would've had to be on my computer to do that? Doubt that's the answer. Thanks though.

Ok. I've got to swallow a bit of pride here. The message is actually "Warning. Your license is not valid for this computer." despite what the thread title says. How did I write the message so wrong and not notice for five days? I have no idea.

I just found this: I have a new toy! - TheCatSite.com Forums Yes, the model mentioned in this thread is my model. So, that helps.

Bill2: sfc scan didn't pick up anything. I also regularly run virus and malware scans.
