Figured I'd check to see what the rest of you think about the new Doctor. Personally, I thought David Tennant was brilliant, but Matt Smith seems to have the role down pretty well. I'm excited to see the next episode /w Winston Churchill and more daleks.

Oh, I just watched tonight's (2nd one) on iPlayer and I thought it was good.
The first episode I thought was ok. The Doctor being zany after regenerating got a bit tiresome and him going back to this now (conveniently) kissogram girl he's been grooming for 12 years seemed a bit dubious and on the whole I thought Matt Smith tried to hard with the quirky.
The convoluted plot in episode 2 has left me wanting to watch it again and I thought both Matt Smith and Karen Gillan played it really well. Matt smith seemed more relaxed but also more powerful and ageless and Karen Gillan appeared to really get into her roll, more feisty and confrontational and also wise in her decisions.
She is obviously already thinking quite frivolously about her impending marriage to the tedious geek from the first episode which implies another doomed romance but, hey, time travel will do that to you:D

PS. Of the new lot I think Christopher Ecclestone was the man. Very scarey
Of the old ones Patrick Troughton and then Tom Baker

totally agree about Ecclestone, loved his dark gritty doctor, im unfortunately too young to remember Classic Who and watching old TV shows brings out the worst in me,

Karen Gillan... now her i could watch all day, unfortunately i found this episode of Dr who to be completely pointless with a weak storyline, by the time it actually got to an interesting bit, (winston churchill) i was beyong caring, i may give it another go tomorrow though, i didn't much like last week's until i watched it again

My stupid Tivo hasn't been record the episodes. David Tennant was brilliant and I can't see him being replaced. I don't want to say anything negative, but I'll just leave it at David Tennant will always be the #1 [modern-day] Doctor in my mind.

How many of this season's episodes have I missed (all)?

+1 Christopher Eccleston(sp?)

I very much like how the producers have managed to maintain the shows campy feel while significantly upgrading the production value.

I agree in the fact that parts of the first episode were a bit dodgy, but I thought the end was awesome. The Doctor finally got his mojo back and called up the Atraxi, hey come back here. Then oh, take a look, what's up with this planet? "Basically, Run!" My favorite line so far.

The second episode wasn't as fun for me... A giant whale being tortured by dumb humans for years and years while they could have just enjoyed their time and not killed a bunch of people. While it might be a great commentary on many societies, I thought it wasn't special enough considering the breadth of the material that the show has to use. I'm definitely excited for the next episode with Churchill, I'm just hoping that the episode has more to do with enemies attempting to destroy something and the Doctor scaring the living crap out of them in the end. That's my favorite plot.

My favorite episodes each season would be the season finale of 1, the beast in 2 and I'm rewatching 3 & 4 atm so I'll get back on those.

I've often heard people talking about where they were and what they were doing when they heard that President Kennedy had been assassinated.
It's a moment that is engraved on people's minds all across the world.
Some say it was the beginning of a new age of lost innocence or the end of a dream and so on.

At 8 years old I was only dimly aware of it because my parents were glued to the (new) television all night for fresh bulletins and breaking news.
To be honest I can't remember where I was or what I was doing. I can't even remember my mum and dad telling me, though they must have.

The next night, however, I know exactly where I was and what I was doing.
The first episode of Doctor Who "An Unearthly Child" was shown, part of a four part debut, with Williams Hartnell as the Doctor, and I was behind the sofa because it was so scary.

Since then my interest in international politics has grown to become an obsession but I still watch Doctor Who.
On the sofa rather than behind it, although it's still pretty scary at times :)

Doctor Who is one of those programs that I only watched because there was nothing else I wanted to see on other channels, originally, that was with Tom Baker. I didn't like him too much, but the couple of times that I saw it after he was replaced, I liked it less. I'm not exactly certain why, however even though I used to love SiFi, I have gradually moved away from it, except now I have been moving back, only because it is about the only type of films that are being made today that I can stomach. Yet, since I disconnected my cable and haven't finished installing my terreresterial TV setup yet, about all that I do watch is on Hulu or TVU Player.
I've often heard people talking about where they were and what they were doing when they heard that President Kennedy had been assassinated.

Yes, I was in my High School's wood shop.

I wasn't born yet, but being a native Dallasite, you can't really escape the Kennedy assassination.

Back on topic: Tom Baker was originally my Dr, but only because he was the lead in to Red Dwarf.
