The sims 1 & 2

Hey guys, my first post here so I don't know if this is the correct section or what but I think im about to GO INSANE! My sims 1 and sims 2 games crash randomly, I've checked my cooling for my CPU and I have a mega fan just ded to it anyway but all my specs are high enough and yet I keep crashing. :'( The problem doesn't seem to exist when I run in windowed mode however...but I'd rather work out a way to play full screen if I can.

Thanks for your help. Since I don't get any errors apart from one for sims 2 where it says app terminated.

Try running them in compatibility mode. Right click then properties > compatibility. Check and select Windows XP Service Pack 2 and see if it still crashes. Is there any error message? If so, what does it say?

Also, try running each game as an administrator.

You should also give the Vista choice a try. Just thought I'd throw that in

Thanks for the tips but the compatibility modes dont seem to work either since they always just crash and give an error. This happens whenever I try and use the compatibility tools, im trying to make it crash in a window so I can see if theres an issue there but so far its never crashed when I run games in a window.

What amount of RAM & Video memory do you have?

Windows requires a lot more resources to run in full screen (try running Media Center in Full & Windowed mode & you'll see an instant difference).

If that's the case, you may need more RAM or a new Graphics card. Try moving to 2GB of RAM and see where that goes. As for the graphics, I would suggest the ATI Radeon 3870 (or similar).

Thanks, although I already have 2gb RAM and an 8500GT. Im going to upgrade my grphx sometime, but yeah windowed seems to be more stable at the moment thanks . Although I used to be able to run full screen fine before.

I know this is an old thread, and I apologize for reviving it, but I should mention that I'm having this exact same problem on an up to date budget range gaming rig...

Intel Core i7-870, 8GB DDR3, & a GTX550Ti with 1GB DDR5 VRAM.

Any other ideas?

PS: I used to play this game on a PII with an old nVidia TNT2 GPU... I really do doubt it's that power hungry...
