"The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with"

I get this message every time I open task scheduler, and there are about 80 of these messages relating to different tasks. I recently upgraded from Vista. I've searched for similar threads but none seem to have been quite the same. Any help really appreciated.

PS - I don't know if this is relevant but in msconfig/Boot Vista is still showing as the default OS, but In control panel/system and security/system the information says Windows 7 HOME PREMIUM SP1.

Where did you get your install media from?

When I bought my Acer it came installed with Vista but Windows 7 had just been released so was given free upgrade option. I think I just had to pay the postage for the installation discs. Seems genuine. Security protected product key on packaging and it activated with no trouble.

If it was me, I'd clean install Windows 7.

Totally agree Kerry.
One could with ease spend more time trying to fix the system than just doing a Clean Install.
I personally don't have any use for Upgrades. You end up Upgrading problems also.

I avoid doing an upgrade if I can. I do see why people do them though. For some its just easier and quicker. To get Windows 10 for free you have to. Although rumor has it Microsoft is changing that. Anyway, as you say, you could spend a lot of time trying to fix an issue that a clean install will likely fix. Upgrades are prone to issues, IMHO. If I had any other ideas I would post them, I don't at this time. That error message is a new one on me.

Thanks a lot for the replies. I hear what you're saying about a clean install but I don't feel comfortable doing it for various reasons, not least because of my limited ability. I have 3 points I'd appreciate some feedback on:

2) Regarding Vista showing as the default (and only) boot OS, is this a security issue if I still have remnants of Vista? When I boot up it certainly looks like Windows 7 so is what it says about Vista being the default OS in msconfig/boot correct?

3) How do I get Windows 7 to show as a boot option, let alone the default boot OS?

As usual, any help hugely appreciated.

It almost sounds like you installed in a dual boot instead of an upgrade? Screen shots would help. One of your expanded disk management and one of the MSConfig option you mentioned.

Yes. It's weird. Regarding dual boot I would have expected to see Windows 7 as an option too but as the screenshot shows it's just Vista. In every other respect the computer is windows 7. The startup 'looks' like Windows 7 (pulsing Microsoft flag), it says Windows 7 on the welcome screen, and my system specs say Windows 7.

The scan 'did not find any integrity violations'.

PS - I noticed in msconfig/general I have selective startup checked, not normal startup. Is this normal?

I'd just ignore it. If it's booting to 7 Ok. You don't have a dual boot, not as far as I can see anyway. You may be able to rename it with bcdedit, http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2676-bcdedit-how-use.html

Thanks a lot alphanumeric. I don't understand why it's showing Vista as the only OS when it's clearly booting into Windows 7. As long as it's not a security issue then I'll ignore it.

I hardly ever look at msconfig these days. I'd say its just a side effect of the upgrade. I don't see it as a security issue.
