At least the minimum performance rate plateaus to some degree and even at minimum performance a very few of those drives will still largely outperform current HDD's.

Either way, I'm not in that much of a rush now to grab one

I've sometimes had a drive defrag in stupidly quick time. It's due to the fact that the HD was defragged mere moments before LOL.

I just posted this in the ReBoot Time thread. OCZ Vertex 30GB with 1275 firmware on XPS M1330. W7 build 7068 x64. Read the whole 30 page article, and the update article, checked Newegg, they are on sale.... the rest is history....LOL

I read the article, in full. I have to say, when I finally do buy a SSD drive for my home use, it wil be an OCZ. When I buy them for work, they'll be Intel though. Money no object there and speed is most important.

Edit: For work, that's the servers. If I get the budget to put SSDs in the workstations, I'd go with OCZ drives since a balance of price and performance is what's used there.

hey all, i been thinking about trying just a cheap ssd drive, there are some on ebay dirt cheap, but witht he read write speeds i dont think they are a legitimate ssd, more than likely one of those sd card raid setupsor just a plain cf card reader, my main seagate drive in my specs gets around 150-180 read and around the 80 for writing, this ssd inparticular is around the same speeds if not slower?

all i want is to try something new, but not spend more than $200 as i just got myself a mortgage for a house. lol. check it out and lety me know what you guys think.

i believe you are looking at a low end MLC SSD which offers almost no performance gains and are slower
but if you look at the specs he is signifing the Avg score for this SSD which most only show the Max amount...
so that might be another reason why his is lower...
also since this is a power seller and are usually reputable and if for some reason you have any problems according to their return policy you can ask their Customer Support
also according to that policy you will be having to pay a restocking fee worth 20%...
(meaning you only get 80% of your money back if its non defective or the wrong item...)

yeh i noticed they were average, but what would make it so slower compared to other lower end ssd's? what is the cheapest you have seen around, or so to say best bang for ya buck?

thnx for ya help to, i just wanna try some solid state storage, what about ram drive storage, the only problem with them is i dont have any free pci slots

Are you using a Ramdisk in conjunction with this. If so, what have u found that works with W7?

I haven't tried a Ramdisk but I plan to. With 8GB RAM and W7 using only 13% at idle, I could create a pretty good sized Ramdisk.

I recall reading on the OCZ SSD forums about success with the Vertex and Ramdisks in W7.
