Solved This Base system driver problem.

Could someone give me a hand. I'm not sure what to do if anything.
I have a lot of these with out and drivers. Also can't update drivers.
I can remove them and they come back.
I can disable them and it doesn't seem to hurt anything.
I'm really not sure where they came from but maybe Asus AI Suite or Corsair Link which I removed a long time ago.

I'd be very wary of Slim Drivers, it will often recommend drivers for non-existent hardware or re-direct to a site asking for money for drivers.

Jack in your example, it is some Intel device, but the device code, 0EB1 isn't found.

Britton - I have that program on two of my Win7 PCs. As long as you read before clicking (which is true of any downloading program), I haven't had a issue with them. Must be the magic.

I have 33 of these all the same. Doesn't seem to bother anything but I'm curious why so many.
My first video card did get RMA and I did use a different video card while testing.

Those are part of the Thermal Control for the Intel Memory Controller. The drivers should be on the disc provided with the motherboard maker. You MUST load that disc or get the INF installer from the board maker. If you did, there must have been an error or it didn't complete.

It may run without the drivers but for how long?

You got me thinking carwiz.
Those could be the drivers from the thermal radar that came with the motherboard. I remove the thermal radar a long time ago. I really just guessing. I also had Corsair Link which I got rid of also because of the problems????

What do your fans do now? I wonder if the Intel PECI channel is working? What do you get for temperatures if you run a temp monitor like HWiNFO?

Jack my ASUS Sabertooth also has Thermal Radar which I found to be less than useful as I did Corsair link. I did have both installed then uninstalled them but have no Base System Devices listed as you do.

Have you run CCleaner's registry cleaner? There may be a few bits left over considering you have 33 of these. Also try Revo Uninstaller to see if it lists either Corsair Link or Thermal Radar. Link for both in my sig.

Your Base System device drivers are included in Intel's chipset driver for the Intel(R) Xeon(R) E5 v2/Core i7

Curiosity question. What version of BIOS are you running? I looked at the ASUS support site. The Sabertooth X79 board started support for the Xeon E5 in BIOS v4502. Did you update your BIOS to v4502? Could be the update enabled those devices (though they're not needed for your CPU - nor are their drivers loaded). (In any case, could explain why those devices are on your board)

Anyway, is just a theory.. So curious which BIOS you're running.

I do have bios 4502 because it's the only bios that works with this cpu even though it's not a xeon.

Yes I do use Ccleander and REVO and I don't see anything looking goofy.
Boy of boy so many choices. I think I will just leave them there. I had a lot of problems with this motherboard so I don't want to screw things up.

There may be a way to prove those devices are real hardware on the m/b

Open DevMgr. Click View->Devices by connection. DevMgr now displays your devices based on how they connect to one another. Expand the ACPI device. Now, expand the 2nd ACPI child device you'll see. Next, expand the PCI bus.

I once had a case where what i thought was a real USB device turned out to be a virtual device connected to a virtual bus! (this is one way to check- as the virtual bus connection was revealed)

If you right click the Base System device->Uninstall and reboot. The plug and play hardware will be re-detected. The "Base System" device should reappear (since it's real but has no driver)

p.s. The device name "Base System" is a side affect because no driver was found. That's the name burned into the device firmware by the vendor

I tried your suggestion.
Yes they are under the PCI bus but only two of them at the top of the list.
PCI bus 0 device 5, function 0
PCI bus 0 device 5, function 2
I deleted them and rebooted.
Things came out the same as they were.
Farther down the list a bunch of PCI bus 255. (Base System Devices)

All the PCI bus 255 have various devices and functions.
They all have various devices from 8, function 0.
To PCI bus 255 device 22 function 2

No I have not ignored your suggestion.
I just like to try other things before installing a new program and using it. I Leary of programs that want to update drivers that Windows 7 says they are up to date.
I'm using it now on the problem computer and will let you all know the results.

I have use this programs suggested by Gandalf. It worked very well. Hell better than well; it fixed the problem. I'm done to one unknown device.

OK, what about the Unknown device? Have you tried to delete it and reboot? See if Microsoft will recognize it this time around? Worth a try.
