USB3 support is not built into Windows 7. If you are installing Windows 7 from a USB-connected device, and your computer has only USB3 ports, you will not be able to do it. In fact, if you try to do the install from a DVD, your USB keyboard and mouse will stop working, thereby preventing you from completing the install.

I looked up your computer at Dell.com, but I couldn't find the Inspiron 15 3000. Please put your exact model number in your System Specs.

Here is some helpful information about how to include the USB3 drivers into your install, thereby enabling you to complete the install:

actually its Dell Inspiron 15 series 3000 buts this is 3542 to be exact. OS was installed using a DVD disc using the built-in DVD drive of the laptop everything works fine until that certain issue. does it mean that the USB port of my laptop is still 2.0 and USB 3.0 does not run in win 7 ultimate 64bit?

The 3542 has two USB2 ports and one USB3 port. Make sure you're installing the correct driver. You want the 8JF9V driver from Dell's website.

I've read here somehere that you need an update from Windows Update to have USB 3.0 support. Windows 7 doesn't natively support USB 3.0 but there's an update that will make use of it.

Did you also install the Intel chipset driver? IIRC, you need to start with the Intel chipset driver and Windows will then recognize there are other devices it also needs drivers for--such as the USB3 driver.

My memory is a little hazy, but I can affirm that I've done clean installs on a few customers' 3542s in the past and used the 8JF9V driver, without any issues.

No, it is not. I just did a Win7 clean install on a 3567 earlier this month, and I used the "Intel USB3 eXtensible Host Controller Driver" from downloadcenter.intel.com.

I'm not sure why the 8JF9V driver isn't working for you. I used all four of the drivers in the 3542's "Chipset" category (Intel Chipset, IMEI, USB3, and Card Reader) from the Dell website, and I had no issues.

In response to RoasterMen's post, I did not need to do any Windows updates first. I did a clean install from a Win7 SP1 DVD, and added Dell's drivers to clear all the yellow alerts in Device Manager before starting on any Windows updates.

Slight correction: it was actually last month. The 3567 I worked on had a Kaby Lake i5, so I had to jump through a few hoops to thwart Microsoft's and Intel's attempts to stop Win7 from working on Kaby Lake processors.

I'm just wondering if he's already installed the latest build of Windows 7? 7600 didn't really have USB 3.0 support
