Windows Cloud is what Microsoft is leaning towards. I have to pay enough subscriptions, if Windows goes cloud, Hello Linux ! I'm on my 8th version of Windows, I skipped 98 and 98ME.

I check out any new system. No way to say whether I like it or not before I have not tried it for a while. Premature judgements are not called for in my book.

I hold great promise for W9 but I will be patient and do my homework. My vote would be for a desktop version with a touch screen capability and a mobile version. The support time for W7 better be well down the road or MS could face a huge business sector backlash as corporations make the jump from XP to W7.

If they fix the kernel file-transfer speed bug introduced in Vista and kept in 7 and 8, to return to XP speeds, then even I'll consider Win9.

The pattern from Windows 98 is every good OS is followed by a bad one then a good one.

So another Windows is coming again from MS? It seems to me that they're just releasing new windows versions just for the hell of it and not putting much thought in it. The moment a new windows is released there already are rumors about the next version. Is it just me or are windows releases becoming more frequent? It used to come out at a slower pace before with service packs and all, now it seems that they're gone too. It requires a full new OS nowadays to update a few features here and there. Seems stupid to me.

In the NT platform first released in 1993 there have been some 7 major releases. About 1 release every 3 years. The consumer line starting with Windows 1 in 1985 follows a similar pattern. And that doesn't consider minor releases or service packs. NT 4 had no less than 6 major service packs from 1996 to 1999. Unlike the current trend service packs for older operating system often added significant functionality. Windows 8 was released in 2012. While referred to as Windows 8.1 Microsoft could have called it Windows 8, SP1. Although there has been much speculation of Windows 9 remember that the best guess for it's release is still more than a year away.

Since the beginning of Windows in 1985 the pattern has been about 1 major release every 3 years. That doesn't appear to have changed much. For those of us who are older it just seems faster.

Edit: New versions of most Linux distributions come out much more frequently than one every 3 years.

I agree, Vista isn't the dog that it is often portrayed to be. It had it's problems to be sure, but so do all operating systems.
Vista got a bad rap from the beginning when it was put by OEMs on computers that were not up to it's resource demands. Vista was released 6 years after XP and a lot changed in computer hardware in that time. It was only natural that Microsoft would take advantage of these changes. Vista introduced many improvements that are still with us in Windows 8.

Vista would've been fine if they released it with SP1 included. I wasted hours every day tuning that thing. When I got a Vista x64 SP1 machine I compared the default services settings on the SP1 machine to those I tweaked on the Pre SP machine. They were virtually identical. Maybe 2 sevices were set to delayed start by default instead of manual. Something along those lines. They could have saved me all that effort. Plus the slow Explorer file copy was a dog. Had to use TeraCopy or KillCopy just to have a usable drag and drop copy. To make matters worse that damn Pre SP OS would not take SP1 no matter what. Talk about "annoyances!" That OS had enough to last me a decade.

My short stop on Vista was a good thing/ shock therapy
Win-7 made the transition complete from x-p,
Can't kick Vista too much because it wasn't there very long at all,
