These used to work just fine. I would view as various icon sizes and I would see the first frame of the video stream. Now, I see no first frame, just an icon. I have searched the web for a few days with no solutions. Any ideas how I can get this back working again?

Thanks

Go to "Tools" then "Folder Options" then Click the "View" tab and make sure "Always show icons not thumbnails" is unchecked. If that doesn't work click the Large Icons choice from the "Change your view" button.

More data. If I network to these files from another W7 computer, the thumbnails work great. This implies a setting or something was changed from a piece of sw loaded on the computer that no longer works.

Try a system restore to a point where it was working!

It is related to nero media hub changing the registry file. If I change the extension to m2ts, it works. If I put back to m2t, it does not. But on another computer with nero, it does work. So, trying to track it down

Yep, turns out Nero mediahub messed up stuff in the registry for the file view. So, by exporting registry settings from a working computer to the non working, it is back up again. Wow, this is a nasty fix!!

Hi h2ofun
Interested in how you transfer your video clips from the camera to the PC. I'm guessing that you connect the camcorder to the PC by USB and just drag and drop to the hard drive? I use the software that came with my Canon HD camcorder to transfer the clips and they get converted from MTS to M2TS files. Although I have been unable to establish what the real difference between the two formats is, I find M2TS files more reliable for editing. They are less prone to having problems with transitions and effects. Much less trouble all round. Just sharing my experiences.

What I do is connect my Sony HD to my computer fire wire. I then use hdvsplit (free program), to bring them in as M2t files. (Could also be called mpeg, mpg all the same stuff) I then edit native with Premiere Pro, and author with Premiere Encore. I then export them as BR ISO files. All of these I load on our Popcornhour hard drive settop box. Never have to burn media!!
