Thumbnails Disappear and Regenerate

It's not a particularly huge issue for me, but it has definitely got me wondering lately. I have two separate internal hard drives for media in my machine. One hard drive (G is for photos I've taken and the other (F is for unrelated photos/videos. Lately I've noticed that after I've dump a large amount of photos into G: (32-64GB of photos), if I later revisit the F: drive to peruse photos/videos, the thumbnails have all disappeared and start regenerating. Nothing has changed on the system other than loading a bunch of RAW camera files onto G:. Any idea what's going on here? It's not terribly frustrating, just slightly annoying at times when I don't want to spend time waiting for tons of GB's of files to regenerate thumbnails.

On a side note, I've also noticed that sometimes my RAW camera files (.CR2's) will have thumbnails. The vast majority are not thumbnailed, yet there are a few here and there that are. Weird.

Are the two folders containing the photos on the two drives defined in your "Pictures Library"?

I think this regeneration of thumbnails may be tied to Windows Media Center and the Library system, and what WMC seems to do on a regular basis.

I know that the "A" flag on video files seems to get set ON (even though I haven't touched those videos myself) when the containing folder is defined as part of the "Videos Library", and I think this is somehow tied to creating thumbnails for those videos as part of WMC's functionality.

Just speculating.

I myself do not use Libraries, since I don't start off using Explorer when I want to play music, watch videos, or view pictures. I start by opening the specific program I'm going to be using for that purpose, and browse for input using the "browser" capability of that program.

All of the photos in the folder on G: are in My Pictures library, but none of the files/folders on F: are included in any library. Good idea, though, and you may be on to something, whether or not it relates to this.
