This morning I installed the latest version of TinyWall, to replace the old version of PrivateFirewall I was using. Everything worked fine, no problems.

A short time ago I turned my computer on and ran SeaMonkey (portable version). The browser brought up my home page, but the mail window timed out repeatedly in attempts to connect to the mail server.

I've gone back to PrivateFirewall but think the more current TinyWall would be better, but not if it doesn't allow me to download email messages.

Does anyone have experience using SeaMonkey with TinyWall and not having my above problem?

Any suggestions and/or comments?

I've never used TinyWall, but I have used various other firewall programs. It sounds like TinyWall is either blocking the email ports or IP addresses used. I'd go into TinyWall's settings and make sure the ports Seamonkey's email facility uses are not blocked by TinyWall. If SeaMonkey is anything like the Thunderbird email client, in the server settings for each email address should list the SMTP and IMAP ports used. Make sure those aren't blocked.

It makes sense that the web portion of Seamonkey isn't blocked since by default TinyWall probably allows ports 80 and 443.

Thanks for the reply.

SeaMonkey's email part is very similar to Thunderbird, and I am very familiar with the items within its preferences section.

I didn't see any way to allow the ports in TinyWall. But there is an option for level of restriction, per application, and after setting it to 'no restriction' for SeaMonkey I can now get my emails downloaded. So far so good.
