What a day, started off the connection of the new machine all seemed to be going well until the monitor decided to tell me it was out of range. The machine seemed to carry on doing its thing but of course I just had a black screen with the little blue box telling me it was out of range and listing the settings it was when connected to the XP machine.

Had to get my monitor and plug that in and of course the set up was waiting for me to input a name for the computer, it then carried on to finish the setup

Changed the resolution while my monitor was still plugged in then swapped over the cables and managed to carry on on his monitor, installed SP1 which needed a reboot and of course it wouldn't hold the resolutions when it booted back up. OK connect my monitor again while I finished installing stuff and doing any reboots needed and the new machine is now connected again to his monitor and hubby is happily working away, I can again use my system that is until the machines are turned off tonight and I expect when they are turned on again in the morning the new one will be showing a black screen with out of range message, so it will be a question of connecting mine again to sort it out for the day.:shock:

Hopefully I will be able to find a solution, hope so can't really afford to get a new monitor at present not after getting a new base.

We watched Amistad tonight, once again, I believe third time in past 12 months. In my opinion the monologue of John Quincy Adams in front of the United States Supreme Court is one of best monologues in modern film, mostly because it is so beautifully versed, so close to the original historical facts in this Steven Spielberg's version of them as possible, but also because of the superb role performance of Anthony Hopkins.

The film is one of my absolute favorites, a beautiful well told story of a sad history. If you have an opportunity to watch it, do it.

This morning I just heard from Mike(HopalongX) that his Mother-in-Law passed away.
Less than a month has gone by since his brother-in-law passed away so it has been a tough month for Eileen and Mike.
Our Deepest condolences and sympathy goes out to Eileen and her family.

May I offer my condolences to HopalongX and family on their loss of a loved one.

Whoopee I have my monitor back and hubby has his working. OK it wasn't all my efforts this time but this morning when the machines were booted up of course his monitor did it's usual thing of out of range and no matter how many times I used mine to change it I couldn't get it to stick when plugging his back in

The family turned up to bring me a card and present for Mothering Sunday and son-in-law went and fixed hubby's set up yippee hubby's happy and so am I now I've got my monitor back on my system.

Of course I had to know what he'd done and apparently it was a matter of going into VGA mode at boot time and doing things there, rebooting and it stuck, I will have to get a new monitor at some point as the one hubby is using actually belongs to the son-in-law

Today I do a walk through on a possible house for the family. I'm taking my brothe alng to make sure I don't over look any details on possible issue I may miss.
