Plus one to all that Kari. Life brings many changes and you seem to be going through some pretty s****y ones right now.
It may be time to hang up your sailor's hat but there are other hats you can put on.
You are probably going through more emotional states in an hour than most of us do in a day. I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like.
It says something about your personality that you have people, who have never met you. rooting for you right now, all over the world.
You are in my thoughts my friend, best wishes, John

Kari - we love you (in a virtual way, and non-virtually as well) and are looking forward to your recovery.

it really can't be easy going through what you are experiencing right now, must be very extremely frustrating. your forum communication skills are still of ultra-high quality - thanks for keeping us posted.

let's all hope you'll be out of hospital soon, and back in the 'real' world. i know it's not much fun - as you know, i spent over two months inside a hospital a few years ago, without the use of my arms for a lot of that time - at least you can still type well, and thanks to the wonders of modern technology, you can still let us know what's going on - i always enjoy reading your excellent posts - i'm looking forward to the next one, and the next, and the ones after that!

i'm sure the doctors, nurses and angie are doing their best for you, and it won't be long until their magic pays dividends, allowing you to return home soon.

i wish i had better words, but i'm sure you know what i mean. :)

I'm not sure they'll let me out today. Already changed my flight to Mumbai to Wednesday, according to my original plans I should fly tonight from Zurich.

Come on Kari, I know you want to go but given your current health situation it's a stupid idea!!!

If you go and have a bad turn which given your current condition there is a good probability, then you could ruin Dinesh's Wedding as well as make your condition worse or kill yourself.

I'm sure Dinesh would rather you get better at home rather than you risk your health making the trip to Mumbai.

John,
Well put!
Better to be home and close to care givers than to jeopardize your health and/or ruin the wedding plans Dinesh has worked so hard putting together.

Im not much of a wordsmith kari ,but they say time is a healer and that is what you must give.
time to heal not rush around i know you are a fighter but some fights you must tackle differently
take the time to mend and heal
im not so sure the pressure of a flight would be good for your brain right now so you must think on and beat this new problem by stepping back and relaxing,
allow your body to heal itself and for f***sake lay of the alchohol ,it will make you do things you shouldn't

Yes Kari We did use your recipe and I'm so glad I got the correct translation for Fabulous.;)

After reading your recent posts I see despite everything you still haven't lost your sense of humour! :D

I have also read the posts with regards to your health and Dinesh's wedding and to be honest I see both sides!

I understand that this would be a complete change and break from your current situation and probably just what you crave right now but at what cost? (Would you even be able to get insured to fly?)

If you were John I would chain and padlock you to the bed and swallow the key, but if it were me and I knew in my heart I had to go I would fight tooth and nail to ensure I was on that plane.

Ultimately, it’s your life and your decision and we have no right to advise you whether you should go or not. If we were if your situation what would we do?

You have to weigh up the pros and cons and see which is the best decision, all we can do is wait on the side lines and offer our opinions either way.

I feel that at present you need to concentrate on not what you cannot do but that which you CAN do!

You are our recovery hero who defies all odds, I’d bet on you any time as would half the people on here. If there is one thing we can guarantee it is you fight the good fight, but we are your virtual helpers who tirelessly route for you, now we ask that you let in those who are within arm’s reach, who you have shut out for a while.

NEVER be ashamed of any of your ailments as they are part of who you are.

I send you a ray of sunshine to brighten up your day and the following Irish blessing!

May you always be blessed
With walls for the wind.
A roof for the rain.
A warm cup of tea by the fire.
Laughter to cheer you.
Those you love near you.
And all that your heart might desire!

Get well soon! :D

NEVER be ashamed of any of your ailments as they are part of who you are.

Very true indeed.

Kari,

Those who love and care for you, love you for the person you are inside, not the exterior.

The outside may be changing, but inside you are still 'Kari'.

It's easy to forget and perhaps on certain intellectual levels even deny, but deep down I suspect you already know this to be true.

Those that cannot accept this were never truly friends to begin with. The strong love of a few is infinitely worth more than than the shallow acquaintances of many.

It's also natural to be fearful of these drastic and unwelcome changes, for they are indeed frightening.

Expressing concern and outpouring emotion of such is nothing to be ashamed of. The same applies to comparing and lamenting upon the difference of a life past, and an envisioned future. It's not an attractive prospect, but for now - at least there is still a prospect.

There is a time and place to feel emotional and have a desire to express these feelings. I'd say that now is one of those times ;)

As for Mumbai, the will and desire to go is most certainly understandable and even commendable.

However, by now the overwhelming message that is emanating very strongly from both knowledgeable and well intentioned people should be resoundingly clear - it's not a bloody good idea.

Realistically my friend, I do not ask the following lightly:

Is attending one mans union really worth the risk of potentially forcing others to attend another mans funeral?

I shouldn't be saying this because Kari really wants to go to Mumbai... but i have to agree with all John and all the other guys, it's really dangerous Kari, you have to be careful because your situation is not "stable" and flying and the stress and all that, can only make it worse.. Really, think about it. Please

Hi Kari. Again, I know you don't know me but in reading your posts, I feel I've come to know you a little bit anyway. I think I have a very simple solution for you. Ask your Doctor if your fit to fly. In your best interest, and those who love you, please listen to that Doctor. A Prayer for you

Sorry but this is the best I could do.
I used the tutorial for finding the missing info but still could not find it. Special Thanks to PooMan UK and DocBrown for their help in filling out these specs.
I can imagine how much making it to Dinesh's wedding means to you Kari, and as selfless as you seem, as a person, putting everyone else before you, in this case Dinesh; this is the time you need to think about yourself and take it easy. You have all the support you need, and hope you do make a quick and easy recovery, despite what looks like a long road ahead.

Thanks guys! I'm also highly impressed that the '2 liners' :p have gone out the window and a sea of words seems to be flowing out of you all! :D

Well said all of you, Baroness you put into words what we all feel for Kari, as for Patrick, well only he could tell it like it is ;)

I have to agree with him though none of us want to see you make yourself worse just for the sake of getting to the wedding, we all know you had such plans but your health is worth more than a few pictures and I'm sure Dinesh will send us some anyway.

Please Kari think long and hard about the situation and as someone said what does your Doctor say and also what does Angie say about it.

Whatever happens we need you in these forums for a good many years to come.;)

I have already told Dinesh I can not come. My hospital visit lasts at least to beginning next week, I was told yesterday. I am in a very bad mood and very sad, it really seems it's not worth to plan something for since last summer all my plans fail. I'm sending Dinesh presents as soon as as I can, and Angie has already promised we'll fly to Mumbai as soon as it is possible for me. Better late than never ;).

Main problem is my ability to speak and occasional loss of of hearing, it's going very fast on the wrong direction. Sometime tomorrow I'll know when they are operating, I really can not understand why making that decision takes so long. I might be forced for a few days break from SF when operated but when it happens, I'll be back as soon as possible.

I'll post some ugly CAT scans when I figure out how to get them to this laptop ;). It's 6:50 AM, waiting to be pushed to laboratory.

At the moment, life is interesting but not especially good. Mac OSX still sux! :)

Kari
