But it's held on other town that takes me 5 hour driving with almost halfway offroad-like field. Actually bad constructed tarmac than might compromise car suspension. :(

Tänään on Suomen kielen päivä. Päivää on perinteisesti juhlittu Elias Lönnrotin syntymäpäivänä 9. huhtikuuta. Vaikka Suomen kielen varsinaisesti kehitti Mikael Agricola, kehitti Lönnrot sitä edelleen nykyiseen muotoonsa. Me suomalaiset muistamme Lönnrotin myös kansalliseepoksemme Kalevalan kokoajana; hän kiersi elämäntyönään maata keräten suullista kansanperinnettä, kooten tarinoista Kalevalan.

Mielenkiintoinen yhteensattuma on että tämä Suomen kielen päivä on paitsi Lönnrotin syntymäpäivä, myös Agricolan kuolinpäivä!

Olen ylpeä suomalaisuudestani, kulttuuri- ja kieliperinnöstäni. Olin mielissäni huomatessani että myös Google muistaa päiväämme. Google.fi:n tämänpäiväinen doodle on kuva nuoresta Lönnrotista tarinankeruumatkoillaan jossain Suomessa. Olen yllättynyt kuinka hyvin amerikkalainen taiteilija Sophia Foster-Dimino on vanginnut Kalevalan hengen kuvaansa:

Today is the day of the Finnish Language. The day is traditionally celebrated on birthday of Elias Lönnrot, 9th of April. Although the Finnish language was de facto developed by Mikael Agricola, Lönnrot developed it further to its modern form. We Finns remember Lönnrot also as the compiler of our national epic Kalevala; he spent his life travelling around the country collecting traditional stories, compiling Kalevala out of those stories.

An interesting coincidence is that this Finnish Language day is not only the birthday of Lönnrot, but also the death day of Agricola!

I am proud to be a Finn, proud of my cultural and linguistic inheritage. I was positively surprised to notice even Google remembers our day. Today's doodle on Google.fi is the picture of young Lönnrot on his story collecting trips somewhere in Finland. I'm amazed how well the American artist Sophia Foster-Dimino has captured the spirit of Kalevala :)
