That sounds wonderful Kari, such a thoughtful thing to do while you are apart I'm so glad she appreciated it. I'm so pleased you are both still hanging in there together you've had a rough time over the last few months I'm sure this has made you both stronger.

Although only 160 kilometers (100 miles) from door to door, I stay here in my work apartment two or three nights a week. The Autobahn here between Erfurt and Leipzig is almost all the way no speed limit so I need only an hour and 20 minutes a coffee break included to drive it but even that feels too much when I work from eight to eight.

It also gives both of us some time for ourselves. Surprisingly, we both are quite happy with this arrangement and much more happier when together. In any case I still sleep most of the nights home.

I am so profoundly, extremely happy I have found this woman. Angelika (Angie) is the one I always knew is there waiting for me; I did not know how she looks or from what part of the world she comes or what language she speaks but I have always known she exists and I was sure I recognize her when we meet. Luckily I was right. She is a dream come true for me.

Do you have to pay fine if not voting? If so, I would also rather pay than be forced to vote.

In my opinion democracy only works if the citizens have a free choice to participate or not. Forcing them to vote is a step in a wrong direction.

Correct. Voting in Australia has always been compulsory for adults 18+.

We have the 'right' to not put in a ballot paper. But we have to have our names ticked off to earn that right :sarc:

It was only a month ago we had to vote for another section of government.

I'd be more inclined to vote if rather than just selecting 'the representatives' that purportedly 'represent' the people, they also added a few yes/no 'big issue' topics that truly reflect what the people want.

I just sat a maths exam from the Uni of Melbourne. There was 7 questions, 3 hours and no calculators allowed. It was extremely difficult; I'll be happy if I get 1 right!

Today, a few weeks after all the uni computers were upgraded from XP to Windows 7, the printer has still not been installed on them...so no one can print. Written on a notice:
"Printer should be back in use from 23rd April onwards."
Written on the 23rd April:
"Printer still not installed. Incredible!!!"
Scrawled in response a week later:
"You shall not print!"

Edit: a few minutes ago... I needed three paper hankies in succession to blow my nose because of my cold. Needless to say, this was a rather long and noisy process. Awed-sounding comment from someone sitting behind me:
"Geez!"

LOL, is it working yet? I would think there's only so long that a uni student can go without printing anything.

I had heard that the last (and only) time Topper tried to have a bath, the water got out in disgust.
