By the same token, though ... I can understand that most people don't understand how to do that so they have to sell the systems to be usable "out of the box". They just need to not include all the crapware. However ... putting that stuff on them makes 'em money.

I could probably make a business of "fixing the box" for people. You go buy your system at Best Buy (or Dell or wherever) then come over here and I'll rebuild it so it works. :-)

A lot of privately owned computer shops are doing just that where I live. I also don't understand why manufacturers won't make a full install disk available at a customer's request for an additional fee. It would probably cost them just a couple of bucks (if that) to make the disk and they could sell it for $20 or $25 ... almost pure profit.

That's actually a good chunk of my business.. I mainly deal with laptops for college students and small business owners. Sort of a low budget alternative to geek squad.
I can do anything any of those guys do, usually better than they do.. for less money, and make a decent living at it.. especially because McrApafeee and other factory installed bloat crashes a lot of the newer computers, and the customers end up having to pay for it because most warranties don't cover software

Another program I use. Secunia Personal Software Inspector. I use it on demand only. It will inspect the programs on your computer and check if there are any updates needed. Many problems come from programs that don't have the new updates. Its free, works quickly. You can have it running or on demand only. It has helped me and has caused no problems on my computer.

As I develop my custom software business I may do the same. Like you, I can beat any "Geek Squad" guy at their own game. I've been developing software for 35 years and working with these machines since they were invented so I have a fairly good knowledge base about setting 'em up.

I Have MSE and Norton 360 there are a Lot of falls with Norton I have found and I will never buy again I am only using it because I paid for it :(

Take the loss and dump the Norton product off your system. You'll be glad you did.

Personally, I think the A/V market has become just like the market for pharmaceuticals. They create diseases so they can sell pills. For many years I wondered if Symantec, McAffee and others were quietly paying hackers to write code that breaks their products so they could sell more of them. Tell me it ain't so!

-Max :D

I took it back and my system is Much Faster :)

Definitely the first thing to do wherever Norton is pre-installed!
