Under Step 2 is another Step 2 to create a partition but also mark it Active for install. Did you do that?

2) Create a specific size partition

If you wanted to create a specific size partition, say 100GB you would add the size you want to create in MBs like in the command below.
create partition primary size=102400 <enter>
1024MB = 1GB - 1024x100 = 102400, you can use/create any size you like.

You can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

Do not format the created partition(s) with the installer if you create them using this process as the installer will delete all this info, the second snip shows how to select "where to install" during the installation process, click to highlight/select the "Windows 7" partition and click next.

Now skip down to #5 below to start the installation.

no , done that on one of my previous installs attempts. still didnt work. on this install attempt i did "how to clean reinstall a factory oem windows 7". diskpart clean> reboot install cd> install> to unallocated 236gb clean drive> install process makes the 100mb sys reserved part> and the 2nd part is made of the remaining free space.

ok from where i left off> install finishes part 2 of the installation process> then reboots> boot\bcd error again> status: 0xc000000e.> error attempting to read boot config

What are the SATA controller choices in BIOS? Is there any chance this is an EFI BIOS? There would be an EFI Boot Disk choice in BIOS Boot order listings. Try another SATA port and then another controller choice.

Try resetting BIOS to defaults to try install again: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Test your HD using maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by Disk Check from DVD Command Line.

Next test your RAM even though it's not directly indicated - all hardware must be cleared: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

What I do when I don't want to waste any more time troubleshooting install is then move the HD to another computer plugged in alone to try install, then before moving back SysPrep to move HD to another computer

You can also try install to another HD.

sata controller mode: compatibility/or AHCI (AHCI Right? im not at my comp, at work now) as far as boot stuff, i can only change boot order.

Replying to one step given with old posts is not how to do this. You need to be at your computer and work through the steps in order, asking back if you have any questions to get them done. Then don't skip any steps. Look back over thread to make sure you haven't missed anything.

In this case I asked you what all the choices are for SATA controller and you replied with an old post about what the setting is now. This is not what was asked for, so answer the question fully when you get to your computer.

ive done: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS -- on one of my installation attempts. along with chkdsk, and CLEAN ALL, and making the partitions as outline in "SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation"

but from where i left off last night:

after finally getting to the point of adding users and getting to my desktop, i checked dskmgmt. the 100mg part had no drive letter this time. and drive c: was the boot drive and had all the right parameters. and guess what happened when i tried to reboot? YEP! boot\bcd error.

I thought you had an AHCI choice, which means there should also be an IDE one somewhere. Is this elsewhere in BIOS?

well the compatibility mode sets it to IDE. Standard mode sets it to AHCI

When you find it, go to their website and download their hard drive tool software. Use it to scan and format the drive. I'm nearly 100% certain this issue was caused by you using diskpart, and using their software should fix whatever is awry. I'm also pretty sure that if you picked the advanced drive option during the Windows 7 install, and destroyed all the existing partitions and then let Windows 7 create what it needs, that things would be fixed.

Download WD DataLifeguard HD Diagnostic burn to CD using an Image Burner like Windows Image Burner or ImgBurn, boot and run full scan.http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html

Diskpart Clean command wipes the HD boot sector of possibly conflicting or corrupt code. It is one of the most reliable troubleshooting steps for failed installs and of course also removes the partitions and clears the partition table. There is no harm that can come of it. Disk wear is only really exacerbated by using the unneeded Clean All command to write zeros and is used to make data irretrievable by most methods.

Kinda Fixed.. I Guess.. I can get to my desktop every time.. but if i make a change that requires rebooting, or if i reboot for ANY reason, i get that boot\bcd error.. UNLESS after comp shuts down, i unplug the plug and hold power button for like 10 seconds. then when i turn comp on it boots straight to desktop no problem.. hmmm
