My gf's running win 7 not sure on what edition, but lately she installed a program which I also use called advanced system care 6 off cnet.com. It has been working fine, she has been complaining to me of a lag when playing bejeweled on facebook. All of a sudden today she turned it on and its a black screen with the mouse cursor, it asked if you wanted to do a system repair, i clicked no at first and later tried doing it, nothing happens back to black screen. Control alt del doesn't do anything, can't get into safe mode, safe mode with command prompt doesn't work, nothing works and we don't have a boot cd, tried pulling battery holding down pwr and restarting to get back to black screen with mouse. So i'm at a loss on what to do. I am pretty computer savvy myself. Just can't get into windows. It does the windows loading green bar then to the black screen with mouse cursor. Any thoughts on where i can get or download a win 7 copy even? or atleast something that can get me into win?
thanks
Craig

Well she turned it on and it went from having a movible mouse on the black screen to read disk err with a blinking cursor and says hit Ctrl alt del to reboot and goes back to same screen. I see u posted a link. I'm on a iPod so really hard to read and zoom. Kinda looking for some direct ideas on how to fix it since net access is very limited. Thanks

After downloading do you not see an ISO file which you can rightclick to Burn or Open with Windows Image Burner?

I'd use Windows Defender Offline if you can't get into Safe Mode with Networking to run Malwarebytes.

While it's important to check for infection first since Win7 may not repair if infected, the crapware likely corrupted the install requiring Startup Repair to be run several times with reboots.

This should offer to run System Restore but if not run it manually to go back if possible before the tweaky junkware was imposed on Win7.

Everything else possible to do to start Win7 is also there leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files to run Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility or the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 .

I just ran the kaspersky rescue disk, nothing found, it only give me a warning before program loads saying failed to unmount hard disk and which means failed to make swap. It also says ETH-0 failed predicting i have a htcp or something. I run wireless net so thinking thats the eth error. What is the unmount prob though?

Can you get into Safe Mode with Networking to run Malwarebytes full scan?

If not run Windows Defender Offline. You only need a scan or two to confirm no infection before moving on to the Repair steps.

No, I thought I said way up at the first post, not able to get into safe mode at all. I am at a black screen of death. nothing works and I don't have a rescue or windows 7 disk to reinstall from. kinda up a creek.

The installer disk is provided in Step 5 of tutorial. Burn it or write to flash stick with tool also provided.

Boot disk into Repair My Computer on second screen, accept any offered Repair. If it fails or not offered, boot in again, see if Win7 installation is discovered and reports approx correct size, highlight it, choose Recovery Options then Command Line. Confirm Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved boot partition (preferred) is marked Active: Mark Partition Active Option Two.

Close Command Box, from Recovery tools list choose Startup Repair. Run up to 3 separate times with reboots. If this fails boot back in to run System Restore as far back as possible.

Then continue with the other steps to try everything possible or just skip to rescuiing files and running Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility or Clean Reinstall.

The installer disk is like 3.1 gb's? I have it already downloading just incase i figured. her pc says sp1 42 cpu 2k or whater, I'm not sure it she has 32 bit or 64 or 86. on the bottom the windows sticker with the key is a 2005 if that helps, I know sp1 is really likely for her thats all i know. The processor is a AMD.

That Toshiba ships with 2gb RAM so likely has 32 bit. Unless it was upgraded to more than 4gb RAM I would stick with 32 bit.

You can attempt to get into System Recovery Options by tapping the F8 key while you wait.

If that fails read over the steps to ask back any questions, and to compare Recovery to Reinstall so you can make a informed decision.

I was looking at the download and it says 64 and 86, doesn't seem to offer 32. for win 7. I think its 2000 cpu so I would try to say its 2 gig of ram, pretty sure. let me look up the model number to see.

checked and here's what it said.

AMD Sempron processor for notebook PCs, SI-42
Features 2.1GHz speed and 512KB L2 cache
2GB of DDR2 system memory, expandable up to 8GB
Furnishes enough memory to handle demanding applications

Ok so make win 7 cd and loaded it on boot, went to advanced options to debugg and it loaded to the black screen of death with mouse cursor and no further, rebooted again and it went into cd options for main option only gives you the option to hit enter and it loads off cd as far as the windows 4 windows that change color and then stays at a black screen of death. Now when I reboot, i have no options off the cd at all it just boots off the cd as far as the black screen of death. Any thing I'm missing here?

Yea still tying and it just bypasses the main options menus on the cd and loads off the cd until windows loads to the black screen then nothing. Thats with both the boot cd i made off my laptop and the win 7 installation cd 32 bit iso i burned.

Confirm you are running 32 bit installer.

Run the hardware tests in the forenote of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

Then reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

If you still cannot get the System Repair Disk or Win7 installation DVD to boot correctly, then I would write the installation ISO to flash stick using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool or UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive.
Boot it by tapping the one-time BIOS boot menu key at boot, look under USB, Removable or HD's for stick to boot - it may need expanding one of the entries. Set the HDD first to boot in BIOS setup, not stick.

If the stick fails to boot, try unplugging the DVD drive which could be faulty.
