I'm more of a UK class kinda guy, obviously because of my location, i'm not a fan of big 'merican diesels, mainland european locos interest me a lot, but there's not much I don't know about EMU's (that's Electric Multiple Units for non rail fans), Hitachi is making all the headlines at the moment with their new class 800 locos which will be the train that runs right through the heart of GB.

Trying to watch videos told in your PDF. For instance, as I am living my ex-pat life here in Germany I wanted to see the video about German ICE trains. It's a no go, GEMA (German performance rights and copyright organization) does not allow me to see it.

Kari, that sucks. What about the other videos. Do they work?

Did anybody actually watch some of the train videos and which one did you like best ?

I checked all the other videos and they work for me, the one I liked best was the Peruvian Central Railway. I enjoy watching how other countries build their RR's in what you would think are the most inaccessible places. Another one that comes to mind is The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway with its loops and zig-zags.

When I get tired of watching video's or TV shows about trains I can always go to the Enola Yard about a mile East of me and watch the hump track action, my sig pic is the Rockville Bridge there in the background, the longest stone masonry arch railroad viaduct in the world, its about five miles up the road from me. There's still some passenger service, but mostly freight here in the States so, I look else where for passenger service especially steam, who can forget the Flying Scotsman or the holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives the 4468 Mallard?

You seem to like the old trains more than the modern versions. I do too. But the modern versions are so much more efficient. I took the TGV from Stuttgart to Paris and I was there in a bit over 3 hours. That used to be an overnight trip when I traveled the same in the 70s. And the German ICE is very comfortable and fast. A normal 3 hour trip is reduced to 1 hour.

But the ultimate would be the Maglev trains. NY to Miami could be done in 5 hours with stops in the major cities on the road. Wouldn't that be nice.

Nah, that's too much asked. Maybe you can take your bike. In Europe you would not need a car. there is public transportation to any place from any place. But people take their bikes for the 'last mile'. In the US, you depend too much on your cars. That will bite you one day.
