Solved Transfer files from c: to other internal hard drive.

My solid state c: is near full, and I want to transfer the programs, games, etc to my other in internal drive. I would like to keep the OS on ssd for booting purposes. Also, will the programs still run/work without being on the c:? I've never done anything like this before so please be patient with me. Thanks

The easiest way may be to leave the Registry info as is for installed programs and use Symbolic Links to redirect access to the new folder on the different HD. This article explains the technique:

What is on your 120 GB SSD that it nearly full ?

A 120 GB ssd is more then plenty for Windows and any programs you have.

If it`s games, they should be installed from C but to another drive.

You can`t just transfer programs, they will have to be reinstalled from C, but you simply change the drive letter in the path to the drive you want them on.

A much better longer-term solution might be to purchase a 256GB-500GB SSD and clone everything from the old SSD onto the new SSD. Experimenting with Windows Prime may or may not lead to your reaching for your Windows DVD install or factory restore action; please have current restorable full image backups on trusted external media before attempting surgery within Windows Prime.

Thanks for posting the result. I have used sybolic links in Linux in the past. But I haven't tried them in Windows. No reason why it should not work. But it is nice to know someone actually did it without hassles.
