so i had a really well working computer, i just had to install the last few updates and a couple of other things, but because i had spent almost a year trying to update windows, i got tired of it and installed a program called advanced system repair that promised to fix windows update errors.. this was a big mistake because that program completely screwed up my pc.. i have tried a lot of things to solve the problems without any success, so i have set windows to reinstall itself and it currently hangs at transferring files, settings and folders 42%, please help

This is called a Repair Install or In Place Upgrade.
What happens when you choose Upgrade, it reinstalls Windows 7
If you do not have enough space on your drive, which is required to perform a Repair Install/In Place Upgrade, Windows will not be able to create a backup entitled Windows.old
Furthermore, if you don't run Disk Cleanup, and I recommend Disk Cleanup Very Low Disk, you will be backing up unnecessary junk, it bloats the backup and is considerably slower than it could be.
From my OneDrive
Repair Windows Without Reformatting.docx

How long did you wait for it to complete?
Depending on your system, it may take a while to work through the process.

On a rare occasion that your Repair Install continues to fail, replacement of the Component Hive with a copy from Windows 7 ISO, DVD, USB etc. is the course of action.

That to me sounds like a virus to me. Reminds me of back in the day when a anon on 4chan made a program that promised to fix windows issues, and when you restarted your computer it would not restart since it deleted the windows files. But anyway, don't throw the files all at once. do them in sections like about 10 folders per transfer.

i was able to solve this by simply letting windows take its time to finish.
it took probably 3-4 hours, probably because i had about 200gb of games installed on my computer.
sadly, it didnt solve any of my problems.
