Hi All,

I'm new to these forums. New to Windows 7. But an old computer guy. So I know when I need to ask for some help.

I had an old HP laptop running Vista and the the video died but, the hard disk was still good. The computer itself was not worth repairing. I replaced it with a new Dell XPS running Windows 7. I took the old hard disk and installed it into an external USB enclosure. I can plug it into the new computer and transfer the data easily.

But what about the applications, application data, user settings, etc...

Any help and direction would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Eric

You'll need to reinstall programs.

I would also not import AppData settings as they are a corruption path into a new install. You'll want new settings for new installs anyway.

The exception of course is importing your mail and possibly settings for Windows Mail, Office outlook, etc.

Here are tips to Clean up factory bloatware to tame the preinstalled crapware including useless Dell utilities which have much better versions built into Win7 itself.
