OK.... So I have a Win 7 Based Laptop that I recently upgraded from Vista... I bought the laptop, It came with the upgrade. I have had trouble connecting to my PC through my XBOX 360 the whole time. Now I have called microsoft and they had me go through and they had me go through and change all theses started and delayed started programms and what not, I don't remember everything, but alot of them were the UpnP and networking things... all that was beyond my knwledge... in eiter case, it seemed like it connected right up, but then when I turned off my console, it would disconnect, and I would have the same problem on start up... I have had Norton Security actually control my PC and put all the proper settings in, and even tried it with out the firewalls on, and still had the same problem. I also had the problem when I had AVAST.
The exact issue is this... When trying to connect through my xbox360 Dashboard, I get to the searching for PC page, it has the option, "PC not listed"
Now, if I sit there and wait, sometimes for a long time, sometimes not so long, My PC DOES show up... and if I select it within literally the first second of it popping up, It usually connects. And it will stay connected until I turn my PC off. But if I wait even a second to select it... it will not connect.
I have had this problem for about a year, on Vista and Win 7... With AVAST and Norton 360...
Like a week ago, I was at my buddies house, and he didn't even know you could stream from his PC like that.... so I tried his out. I set everything up like mine is, and the second that I chose to allow streaming to the 360 inside windows media PLAYER, his PC showed up on the 360... and has stayed connected since... I checked his OS, Windows XP... I really don't want to have to go buy XP... I like win 7 and I know I should be able to perform these tasks.... I am not interested in streaming via Media Center, and I have the same problem there.
I have a softmodded original XBOX that streams seamlessly, up until a week ago, but that is my problem, and they are not related...
any help would be greatly appreciated if you even got this far!!!:devil2:

I noticed you listed your AV program and not his. What does he use? Are you connected directly with a Ethernet cable, or is this with both connected to a router?

Does your Xbox have trouble connecting to Xbox live at all or is it just when trying to stream between the two? Have you tried streaming between two Windows 7 computers?

Sorry if these seem like reduntant questions. Just trying to find the right solution for you.

I've been looking around the Xbox website and this one. I found something in an old thread here that might be relevant.

"I tried many things to resolve this but the only thing that actually fixed my problem was in my router configuration. I have a Linksys router and I logged into my router config page via web browser. I then clicked "Security" I then set the "Filter Multicast" option to "ENABLED" I now had instant access to my media via my xbox."

The IP on most linksys routers is 192.168.1.1 and the default username and password should be admin. If that does not work leave username blank and just type admin as password. If you changed the user name and password, then you should already know what they are. I had a feeling the router was connected to the problem, so I hope this helps.

EDIT: The IP address needs to be typed into the address bar on your web browser.

Did you set the MTU setting to manual and make it 1364?

Here is some other stuff I found:
1. Navigate to Start -> Devices and Printers.
2. Right-Click on the Devices drop down bar and select Network Settings
3. Once the Network and Sharing center opens, on the left pane click the link to "Change advanced sharing settings".
4. Scroll down to the section: Media streaming, and click on "Choose media streaming options..."
5. Your Xbox should either already be listed or will appear after a few seconds (As long as it's already on and connected to the network).
6. Click the drop-down box to the right of your Xbox and select Allowed.

Type services in the start search' bar on program menu scroll down to windows media player network sharing service. Right click on it in properties make sure that it is has been started and is working and the startup type is set to automatic.

Its a setting some have to change to get xbox live working properly. As you are already connected to live we can try some other stuff first. In case you want to go ahead and try, it should be on the setup page under basic setup. You should just see something that says MTU and has a drop down box beside it, from which you choose manual. The number goes in the box below it. Lets try some other stuff first then we can come back to that.

After changing it you might need to reset your live connection. You shouldn't have a problem reconnecting.

Look at the last post on the first page of this thread. I post some other solutions.

SO just to be sure, you looked through the libraries on the XBOX and your computer did not appear. You said you already turned off your firewall if i'm not mistaken. I might need a few minutes to find another possible solution.

EDIT: also, the green arrow is only for showing which printer is the default if not mistaken.

I am still on the searching for network page on the 360... my network HAS shown up once or twice in the last half hour... but I didn't choose it quick enough, so it didn't connect... and yes... I have tried it repeatedly without my firewalls on... I have them on now though of course

ok... now this might just be a coicidence, but I was going throught that servises page and starting up on automatic anything that had to do with networking... and nothing was working till I got to:

Routing and Remote access Properties.... It was disabled... I started it on Automatic, tried to connect, PC popped right up... Turned it off once, and was still connected... This is turn off number 2.. and... Holy shit... it is still connected... does that sound right?
