Trouble installing service pack 1. Please help - Log attached

Hi guys,

Similar to others posting about problems updating to service pack 1; I too am having a difficult time.

When I try to download the SP1 via windows update it's just stuck at 0% downloading. Tried numerous times. If I install other windows updates without marking SP1 they tend to install fine. But once I select SP1 it just never downloads not matter how long I wait.

I tried to download windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe version of the SP1 update. It looks like it's installing but when I get to the end I get hit with an error.

I've tried a few other fixes that presumably work but it didn't help.

I've attached my log below. If anyone could give me a hand that would be appreciated. I'm using Windows Home Premium 7 x64.

Excellent work on posting that log! The System Update Readiness Tool found 99 errors, and fixed them all. There are no more errors there by the looks of things at the moment.

Please run this FixIt but do not check the Aggressive Mode box: How do I reset Windows Update components?

It is perfectly compatible with 7, no matter what the message at the top says. Do not run it manually, that is only a waste of some of your precious time

Then please re-try Windows Update, and see if the problem is resolved.

If it is not resolved, please run the standalone SP1 which you downloaded once again, but please write down the error message you received, and post it here.

I did the fix it thing. Still same thing.

Windows Update still stuck on 0% and the SP1 exe file still gives me the same error. I go the error code this time. It's Error 0x800f081f.

Would appreciate any further suggestions.

Hello again!

First, I shall read out what error code means:

0x800f081f

A source file or manifest for the package could not be found while the package was being extracted or during the installation. For example, there was a missing manifest for the package in use.

Make sure that you have enough disk space, and download the package again. If you continue to receive this error, then you may have insufficient rights to the files on the computer or the package may be invalid or corrupted

Are you running this from an Administrator account? Do you have enough disk space?

If they do not solve it, please copy C:\Windows\Logs\CBS.log to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload that new file here.

Yes it is an administrator account and there is plenty of disk space for the SP1 update (200gb from what I can see ).

As requested I've attached the CBS.log to the post. Hopefully it's helpful in one way or another.

Hello again!

Excellent work on uploading that log file! Let me see if I can't work some magic!

Close all other programs, and open an Elevated Command Prompt (even if you run an Admin Account) http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/783-elevated-command-prompt.html

Copy and paste in:

dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB976932~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.17514

and press enter. Follow the onscreen instructions for uninstalling the package. Reboot the computer immediately when told to do so.

Open another Elevated Command Prompt, but this time use this command:

dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB976933~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~cs-CZ~6.1.7601.17514

This one may or may not error. It is possible that the first one will have already uninstalled this package. Don't worry.

Reboot again, either way, and re-try your standalone download of Windows 7 SP1 (ie NOT through Windows Update)

It looked promising but unfortunately it didn't work. I now receive error 0x80070002.

You were right about the second code getting an error though.

Any other tricks you can pull out of you sleeve?

This is a very strange problem. That error code is another way of saying that the update is corrupt! Maybe a bad download.

Please run this tool in Aggressive Mode (again): How do I reset Windows Update components?

and then try SP1 through Windows Update.

I do think that the first error is fixed though. I think that your problem has two causes, and the first one is now fixed. Good news!

Ran it in aggressive mode and tried updating via windows update but it just gets stuck downloading at 19%.

Anything else you reckon I can try?

I have pretty much the same issue in that SPI will not install even using the *.iso SP1 file. I have the same OS as you and I have working on this for weeks now with no luck.

I continue to get the following error whenever I try to run SP1,even running in SafeMode, ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT(080073712).

Really sorry for the late reply. I am practically drowning in work...we usually have three people to deal with this forum. At the moment, we are influxed with SP1 errors, it is only me, I have two maths exams on Friday, and I have a deadline for three programs for a client due on Sunday. Sorry for the delay.

Can you please use this program to calculate the MD5 for your downloaded Windows 7 SP1 installer: HashMyFiles: Calculate MD5/SHA1/CRC32 hash of files

and then tell me the MD5 so that I can check that your download is not corrupt.

Can you also please zip up and upload C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.

The MD5 looks good. I am not quite sure what is going on in that CBS.log. It claims that it cannot find the registry key. I don't believe this is the actual cause, just because SP1 is not actually installed.

It also keeps saying that there may be many partially installed updates.

I am not quite sure what is going on. I have just called in someone much better than I, who may unfortunately have to suggest uninstalling SP1 using the previous procedure, and then Repair Installing, (or worse, but probably and hopefully not)

What installation DVDs do you have, just in case?

According to CBS, you have a restore point created before this - I would *strongly* suggest getting back to that restore point, rebooting, and then running checksur and a sfc /scannow to make sure you're actually stable and at the correct file versions before trying SP1 again:

It might be useful to actually make an entire system backup at this point before continuing with SP1 again, if you're paranoid about not having to reinstall if you lose the restore points. Unfortunately, the system is in a state of limbo right now that I'm not sure you can easily get out of.
