Solved Trouble Uninstalling Rising Antivirus Free

I have Rising Antivirus Free on my Windows Home Server and I cannot uninstall it. Under the Control Panel, it's not even listed under the add/remove programs list and under the Start menu, there's an Uninstall link but clicking it does nothing. Does anyone know a way to get it removed without damaging anything in the process?

Have you tried using Revo Uninstaller ?

Choose either the freeware version or Pro 30 day trial version

   Note

The pro version will remove programs that are 64 bit . OS bit does not matter it's the Software bit that matters

Install the program . Launch the program click on Rising Antivirus Free and choose Uninstall . Choose Adanced mode and click on next . If you get the builtin Uninstaller of the Antivirus use that to remove the program once that is done go back to Revo Uninstaller and click next . It will scan for left over files in the registry click on Select All and click on the Delete button . Then click Next . It will scan for some more left over files if it locates those do the same click on select all and choose Delete. Once you're done click on Next . That should remove the program from your PC .

Stsrt the computer in Safe Mode:

Tap the F8 key as the computer starts
Select Safe Mode from the menu presented.

Then go to the uninstall link for Rising Antivirus, and see if it goes.

The Revo Uninstaller sadly did not find Rising. I also went into safe mode to attempt and uninstall it from the start menu. It still didn't work. I even tried Revo in safe mode and it didn't find Rising. Why is Rising so hard and complex to remove? If I was to remove Rising from the start menu and program files folder in the C drive, would that eliminate it or would there be remnants leftover?

Right-click on SystemLook.exe, and select: Run As Administrator

Copy the content inside the following quote box into the main textfield:

:filefind

:regfind
rising

Click the Look button to start the scan.

When finished, a notepad window opens with the results of the scan.

Please post the SystemLook.txt (found on the Desktop) in your reply.

When I went to the link provided to download the software to my PC so that I could transfer it to my server, my security alerted me to something being dangerous. See attached.

Have used this program since it got created, a few years ago.

Just downloaded it to my Desktop. My AV did not blink.

It's up to you. We cannot force you to run a program.

Go to Computer, in the left pane click the arrow by your C;\ drive, Find Program files and Program Files(x86) and open each one in turn, find the Rising program folder and open it. If there is a file called Uninstall, try clicking that.

If you just delete the Rising files there will still be 100s or 1000s of registry entries left over.

Another thing to try is CCleaner - Download click under Free, download from Piriform, be mindful of adding a tool bar. Use CCleaner's uninstall function.

Hi Cody ,

If Rising Antivirus was installed to C:\Program Files ( on a 64-bit OS ) the Free version of RevoUninstaller will not locate it . You would have to download and install RevoUinstaller Pro (30 day Trial ) .

   Note

Windows 7 64-bit has Two Program Files folders . C:\Program Files( for 64-bit software ) and C:\Program Files (x86) ( for 32-bit software )

Thanks for all the info! I will try CCleaner's Uninstall mechanism and see if it finds it. If not, I will try the Revo 30-day trial and see if it can locate it.

Revo did the trick! I manually pointed to Rising's program files and it wiped out all of its program files and registry entries. I did a restart and it was gone. Unfortunately, CCleaner didn't even find Rising before I used Revo 30-day trial. Thanks for the help!

Yes, very good news and I am glad it's gone. Never saw such a program that hard to remove. It's unreal.

codyw if you feel comfortable in the registry I bet you will still find parts of that anti virus there. It will leave little pieces of things in every nick and corner of a operating system.
Another little program I use is Everything Search.

Sentinel72, I see why you don't like Rising.
Layback Bear, the only time I really like messing in the registry is in one of my many virtual machines because they can be easily screwed up and the risk is high for damaging the operating system. Thanks for recommending another tool! In the event the system does show signs of instability, then I will give the tool a try. But I completely understand what you mean with tiny leftover remains from Rising.
