I use 64bit with Win7Codecs, everytime I try to convert any avi to dvd I get bars on the side making the dvd picture smaller than the original avi picture. Have tried ConvertXtoDVD, winAvi, NeroVision, Cucusoft and a couple others and it's always the same, if the video on the avi fits across the screen it never does after conversion I've tried uninstalling the codecs and using klite instead, all my drivers are up to date Any help would be appreciated

When you say you've used Win7Codecs, are you referring to Shark007's codecs? (Shark007's FREE Codec solutions.)

If not, give them a try. If they are the ones you are using, try his forums (actually, try his forums even if you aren't using his codecs. He probably can help.)

Use TMPGenc Plus 2.524.63.181 or just 2.5 if you can't find that. Click setting. Go to advanced tab. Make the video arrange method say full screen (keep aspect ratio.) You may have to load the unlock.mcf template first, found in the extra folder.

You should choose 16:9 for the aspect ratio (unless full screen standard tv content or the source is 4:3...this is very basic description). You can mess around with the video arrange method setting and encode only a few seconds. Then test the file in PowerDVD or another player. If acceptable, encode the complete file.

It is of no use to bring this issue to my forum. It is not a codec issue.
It is a windows issue affecting many softwares, but not all.

sorry that I was not of any help.

TMPGenc encodes to MPEG1 or MPEG2. MPEG2 is what's used for DVD. It can and does make standard compliant DVD files if you set it to do so. It even comes with DVD templates for both NTSC and PAL. If you need further pointers on it, let me know.

I just formatted and reinstalled, only put the video card and sound card drivers on and Firefox, tried to convert again and the same problem, so it definitely isn't a codec problem lol Formatted and did the same with Vista 64, same problem. This one has me real beat now

Yes please any help with TMPGEnc Plus would be appreciated

What is the source video you are using? Do you know the aspect ratio on the source file and are your settings trying to change the aspect ratio?

There is also a correct term for when those black pillar borders are added to video I cannot remember exactly what that is called but they may be added to any video by choice while encoding. Because of that youtube recommends not adding them so that their player will correctly display the video. This could be where you are running into problems. If the option is set as default it will add those bars.

What software are you using or I should ask what all software have you tried converting with so far?

I have tried using all the software I mentioned in the first post, and played with the settings in each to try and get rid of the padding

Sitting back and pondering on this, I realize the troubles only started when I got my new video card - GTX 285, doesn't help but it's something

ok, I have solved it, I took the plunge and put 32bit windows 7 on, everything works beautiful now, have all installed all software that I used in 64 bit. To tell the truth with the 4 gig memory I have, I'm not noticing any difference in performance between the two OS's I hope this helps someone else
