Troubles with slowness.

Fluff out your System Specs by using the following procedure:

UPDATE YOUR SEVENFORUMS SYSTEM SPECS


User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
in left-hand column, under Your Profile, Edit System Spec |


Use Speccy - System Information - Free Download
and/or SIW to gather info for filling in the blanks.

Do me a favor. Please add the word laptop or desktop to the “system manufacturer” block.

Provide full windows version info, such as provided by Speccy:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader, Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

Well, if this is a computer related issue... As Karlsnooks said remove Norton, but with the Norton Removal Tool, Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support

Then go ahead and install MSE 2.1 Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

If you've already run a full MBAM scan, then there is no need to do so again.

Clear your startup list of unneeded programs as karlsnooks said. Also, open CCleaner, go to the Tools section, then Uninstall tab, and select at the bottom right corner of the app, Save to Text File. Upload that text file so that I may review all unneeded programs installed into your computer.

I know that is said to remove Norton but i never had this trouble before having Norton, could it really take a year to become a problem? If it does then i a guess i am gonna have to take this up with Norton and get my money back cause i have not long renew my subscription with them
Oh and when i was editing my system specs i could not find how to test my internet speed, can some one tell me how i could do this please?

internet speed is seldom a factor in problems we encounter with Win 7.

Nevertheless, you can:
Control Panel | be sure that Small Icons is selected |
Network and Sharing Center | Change adapter settings (left-hand column) |
From the conections listed, right-click on the connection you are using |
click on Status | Speed will be one of the items llisted

@karlsnooks - that just tells you your Network speed, not Internet Speed.

@Sarah - You don't need to fill in the internet speed in the System Spec, that's optional, but if you still want to check it, then go here. Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

That might be a problem, Symantec would probably refuse to give you a refund, and instead offer to 'help' you with their crappy tech support, being the cheapskates they are.

SpeedTest will give you the effective throughput speed which is a great variable. The other speed is the actual connect speed for the adapter selected.

My speedtest value will jump all over the place depending upon where I am. Plus for people like me who are quite frequently in a coffee house, then the local router performance, load, configuration have a dominant impact on the performance.


I also use speedtest when I want to get a general idea of the performance that I can expect at the time of the speed test.

@karlsnooks, yup I know that. Speedtest gives internet speed, what you suggested shows how fast you are connection is to the network. For example, connecting through wireless to a Wi-Fi Router with 802.11g, will give top speeds of 54mbps/s.

Ok not sure why or how, but now i only get slowness some of the time, when i first open internet explorer or a new tab it is pretty quick, but when i type what i am searching for and hit enter the speed is verging on slow, then it is even slower to open the page.
I am very greatful for all the advice, but i wanna make sure it is not any thing else and is 100% Norton before i remove it, and from what you guys have said, for sure when the year is up i won't be renewing my subscription.
And well i did the speed test and this is what it said
PING - 35ms
DOWNLOAD SPEED - 1.52mbps
UPLOAD SPEED - 0.66 Mbps
I don't have no clue if this is good or not, could some one tell me?

Speeds are good.

Uninstall Norton.
Install and use Microsoft Security Essentials which is free and excellent.

MSE is the only AV is use, the only AV I install and always my first recommendation.

My personal view to these AV programs are, that the only company that is interested to eliminate viruses and malwares and protect the customers, are the operative system manufactures like Microsoft. The reason is, if they can get a good reputation from users like you and I, then they will become more popular among those who are suspicious about the security that Windows has.
