Somehow automatic updates got turned on. After a couple of updates my PC boots into repair mode. All my troubleshooters are kaput and I am unable to connect normally to the internet. Also I noticed I have lost my activation status. This is after I used system restore to address non-booting issues. Running the installation disk to attempt a repair was futile. I've run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r/f/b to no avail. Any way to fix this problem or is a fresh install my only available option? I'm considering two programs to install. Fortect or EasyRE.

Looks like I got hold of a dirty copy of Win 7. It runs for a while and then beaks with BSODs and other weird stuff.
Without help from the in-house experts I woulda never figured it out.
