Troubleshooters don't work. Not always same code.

None of my troubleshooters run. It used to be error code 0x80070005 religiously. I don't recall what I did, but I ran some programs and that code went away - mostly. But it did not change the fact that none of the troubleshooters would run. If I try to troubleshoot something now, it either won't open, takes a really long time to start, or gives me the error code above. Most of the posts I've read about this are years old, why is this happening now? I appreciate the assistance.

I see you have Advanced System Care installed. This has received a lot of reported problems & it would be a very good idea to uninstall it & that can be very difficult. In fact in some cases the only way to completely remove it is to completely reinstall Windows.

These so called trouble shooters rarely do anything useful & generally cause more trouble than they fix.

Windows 7 does not need them & they really should not be used.

The problem is that when programs like Advanced System Care cause a problem, uninstalling them does not fix the problem, as they have actually damaged the system. This is why it sometimes becomes necessary to completely reinstall Windows & all your other software programs again.

Have a read through this MS website & see if there is anything there that might fix your problem.

I went through MS's site before coming here. Advice from senior members who appear to be well respected have included removal of certain programs. I don't know that removal of a program damages 'the system' as I have found no information that would support that statement.

I would be interested in the opinions of other knowledgable members on the issue of removing potentially harmful programs and the 'damage' done by removing a program 'like Advanced System Care'.

I don't know that ASC is responsible for or caused any problem or damage to my system. Reinstalling the OS shouldn't cause me to lose programs or data. It will replace missing files and overwrite corrupt files. It shouldn't reformat the drive or remove non-OS data.

It's not damage done by removing programs like ASC, it's damage that they actually do while they are installed.

Reinstalling Windows will cause the loss of other programs & they will have to be reinstalled. Data will usually survive as long as you don't reformat the drive & it is usually found in Windows Old.

If you don't want to lose other programs you can try Repair Install of Windows. There is a tutorial on how to do that & it can be found at:

Using the Recovery disk, that also contains the OS, I re-installed Win7HP and, as I knew it would, it replaced files without touching data such as email, documents, images or programs.

Just because somebody wrote that a program damaged their system, without a complete breakdown and elimination of hardware problems, I would definitely seek other opinions. I've run ASC for years without problem. It seems that their latest version may be buggy; if the issues are resolved, then deleting it was the right thing to do.

My OS is on an SSD - no moving parts. I can't see it being 'damaged' by a program.

Don't trust what one person tells you unless it makes sense or won't make any difference. Reinstalling the OS and recovery disks are there for a reason. My system is restored. I don't know that it fixed any of the problems, but I'll find out soon enough. :)

Unfortunately just removing programs like ASC, actually, does not remove any of the changes made.
In each of their options they always create restore points or have there own built-in revert function, and they should be run prior to their removal.

I've had ASC for years now and its never actually given me any grief, and im also running Bitdefender as my AV.

Going back to your oringal error that code reports back to a permissions problem.
If you copy that code and paste it back into your browser it should go straight to an MS forum page with instructions on how to correct it.

Please Advise Noel about what your doing running more than 1 fix at the same time will cause confusion and may well be counter-productive.

Troubleshooters not working - Error Code 0x80070005

Right. And MS offers 1 suggestions - is to create a new user and try running the troubleshooter with that new account. If it has no problems, then your user account is corrupt. The instructions that follow are so convoluted and involve probably a dozen steps that don't need to be there and would give me a major headache.

The headache starts right after creation of a new user account, but you don't login to that account, you find the files from the potentially corrupt user and copy them to the new user account; then a bunch of steps that look like more work than I feel like doing right now and will probably have to print out just to follow.

Log off, Log on, blah blah blah. Why can't they just make a patch? Now I see I have two Problem Devices that are missing so I have to reload the system disk just to find and copy the files.
